Nando's fiery Luso-African food add to this DC neighborhood's already diverse cuisines. Nando's is a South African chain featuring the peri-peri chicken that's popular there; the delicious, spicy peri-peri sauce is made with an African pepper and may have originated in Mozambique. You can have your chicken on a bun, in a wrap or a pita, or plain. You can select your degree of fire--I chose "hot" and found the mildly spicy sandwich very enjoyable. The pineapple slice provided some contrast. There are a number of sides to choose from. I had thought the butternut squash salad sounded interesting, and it was--served warm, with grilled corn and red onion, and some lively kick of its own. There's a nice wine list, too--I enjoyed a cold, crisp vinho verde. There are even some desserts, including what might be the epitome of a custard tart--flaky, eggy, and caramelized on top. The setting is stylish yet casual and welcoming. Obrigado and ngiyabonga, Nando's!
