“A hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2012

Beautiful grounds landscaped by the designer of Central Park and a wonderful little museum of pre-Colombian art in a historic upper Georgetown mansion. A marvelous place to escape from the bustle of the Mall.

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2011

There is the museum and gardens. The museum was small but very nice and the gardens were very, very nice. I have to honestly say that that was the nicest garden I have ever seen and I saw it in december! I will have to go back when it gets warmer in the late spring around april or better yet summer.

“A hidden garden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

We stumbled upon this garden as we were following Fodor's recommendation on a Georgetown walk in the neighborhood. We wanted to get a feel of the historic neighborhood. Fodor's did not serve the review of Dumbarton Oaks it's justice. This is a magical, secret garden! I felt like Alice in the Wonderland who fell in a rabbit hole. Words cannot describe the beauty of this 16 acre garden. There are many garden rooms, urns, water features, statutes, and beautiful flowers. They are only open from 2 - 6 p.m. during the spring and summer months daily except Mondays. It was a wonderful time and I can't recommend this place enough! Definitely spend an afternoon there! Bring a bottle of water along. It was a nice break from the monuments and museums. I recommend doing the National Cathedral in the morning and then Dumbarton Gardens in the afternoon. You can have a picinic next door at the Dumbarton Park. Kids will love this place! I'm coming back there someday in the spring when the cherry trees are blooming.
