“Bucket List, Check!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2014

Lots of friendly camera sharing/trust in you take mine/I'll take yours. (NOT in NY!) Bring Publix bags to sit on (damp earth, clayish) & get a bunch of food samples from food tents along Basin & eat in Blossom yard behind food tent area. There's music close by and you are having the most scenic picnic of your life. Walking in this yard was dreamy/I cried it was soo beautiful. You can spin in a circle and are just overwhelmed by all those trees. This area was way better than walking along the Basin sidewalk. Never did find a good taxi pick up point... They'll drop ya, but won't pick up along street.

“Gorgeous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

The wife and I visited today, April 10th. Perfect timing, the blossoms were in full bloom! We took the Metro to the Smithsonian station and walked to WW2 Memorial, then the MLK Memorial (my first time!). We continued around the Basin to my favorite, the FDR Memorial. It's always a great place to reflect on what a truly great man FDR was and how his credos still apply today! We then continued to the Jefferson Memorial and on to the Metro station. Just a nice way to spend a few hours on a beautiful spring day!

“What a view during cherry blossom....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014 via mobile

I have just been today, when the cherry trees are blossoming. Besides the number of people having a walk there, what a view! It is really beautiful, and you understand why there is so many people around. So, if you happen to be in Washington at the right time, do not miss the Tidal basin during cherry blossom. You will not regret it. One more suggestion: take a bike from the Capital Bikes bike sharing, I just loved going around cycling.

“Has potential to be 5 stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

The National Mall is so huge that it is difficult to divide it into bite sized chunks. My suggestion for a day: Holocaust museum, Bureau of engraving and printing, and walking around the Tidal Basin to see the Jefferson, FDR, and MLK monuments. This is especially lovely when the cherry blossoms are in full swing. Why 4 vs 5 stars? The water was mucky and downright gross in some parts, the sidewalk was dirty in areas, and there was trash blowing about. If the area could be spruced up, it would be a 5 star walk. The walk around the tidal basin is a little over a mile and takes under an hour. Well worth it. Great view of the White House and Washington monument from the Jefferson memorial as well.

“So beautiful and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

The tidal basin is a gorgeous walk from FDR Monument all of the way out to the Jefferson Memorial. I have seen it with Cherry Blossoms in full bloom (along with the other thousands taking the same walk at the same time!) and in the fall when the leaves are sparse, with hardly anyone around. Both experiences were equally as wonderful. It is a long walk, but definitely worth it!
