“Peaceful for a walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

A good way to spend a couple of hours walking round the tidal basin taking photos across the water at Jefferson Memorial from all angles, catching the reflection on a calm day. Not close to any metro, so walking is the only option. It's a shame that the area seemed to have drainage problems and was coned off in parts as it was boggy around the lakeside. But a great way to get away from the crowds and city.

“nice water views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

If you can find a spot this is a great place to take in the views. We usually bring a bite to eat and enjoy the water while warming up in car after checking out the memorials, or just driving around the area. There is a concision stand here, along with a large grass area. There are paddle boats to rent also. It is one way and sometimes you can get stuck for awhile behind someone waiting for a car to pull out. Cherry trees are located along the path so expecting to park during cherry Blossom festival will not happen. From this area you can walk over to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. It is a bit of a walk but, worth it if your up to it . It took us three separate visits to finally find the road that let car traffic into Jefferson Memorial.

As we have come during the crisp months shall we say - the concession stand wasn't open the first few times and the paddle boats weren't operating. Had we gone to this area before we would have saw the path that leads over to memorial.

“Kind of stinky”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

While the tidal basin is pretty, it sort of stank of something industrial while we were there. Didn't want to spend too much time because of the smell.

“Tidal Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Beware of the crowd during Cherry Blossom. Do not park or attempt to park the tidal basin parking area, if you can go to Franklin Roosevelt Memorial and park there. You can then walk back to Tidal Basin.

“Nicely designed ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

The tidal basin was designed to stop the flooding of the city by Archie Alexander it is doing just that when the tide is high on the potomac river the inlet valve allows the water to come into the basin and the outlet valve allows the water to go back out when the tide is low on the river, but best time to visit is during the cherry blossom festival ,the cherry trees are all around the basin lovely, the nastier the winter the better the blossoms,it's worth seeing
