“Perfect, busy during the cherry blossom festival”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

This is a great walk, with the Jefferson Memorial a nice respite to hang out and take a breather. Now during the hieght of the cherry blossom festival, it is extermely busy, yet still wonderful and all the more alive with the people enjoying each and every section, it seems. Check out the back of the Jefferson Memorial for a nice shot with the Washington Monument.

“Cherry Blossom Festival”

So beautiful this time of year. Look forward to the next great event. Although the area was a little crowded, it was still a relaxing trip and such beautiful scenery.

“white and pink cherry blossoms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

The cherry blossom peak happens every year between the last 2weeks of March and first 2weeks of April. Plan accordingly! Spring is the BEST time to visit Washington,DC. Driving to the Tidal Basin is a mess, I don't recommend it. But if you do, be early and you shld. be able to park on parking garages with fees, metered street parking or on the street like Constitution Avenue, they start towing at 4PM. If you're taking the Metro Subway from any point/line, make sure you get out the the train from Smithsonian(I believe it's the orange line). Take the Holocaust Memorial Exit. Once you're on the top of the escalator, you are at the front of the Dept. of Agriculture bldg. and across the road is the Smithsonian castle, from here you shld. be able to see the Washington Monument(closed for construction until further notice) and cherry blossom trees. Walk towards the monument, passed by the 1st traffic light, turn left on 2nd traffic light. On your left is the Holocaust Memorial, go down further and it's the Tidal Basin.
Start taking pictures! well...for me I hit the portable loo 1st!
This year, I went there during the peak(1 week only) after work. Million people in the Tidal Basin! You'll see babies & preggies, old & young, wheelchairs, mohawk hairs, brides on their wedding gowns, the Amish people, painters, the monks with orange garbs & people with all walks of life, it's unbelievable!
OK!...so either you can start to your left or to your right. I promise it's gonna be amazing if you go around. Either way you gonna cross 3 bridges. The loo is on your right, there's a kiosk and there's a paddle boat rental. Don't you worry the basin is surrounded with cherry blossoms except the bridges. There are benches along the basin as well.
At any angle you will be able to see the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. Before you hit the bridge, there's a garden of tulips with different varieties, take some pics! After the bridge, to your right is the Worl War 2 Memorial then you'll be able to see the Japanese lantern(?), you can have your picnic here, as you go further on your right is the Marthin Luther King Memorial, more further and you will see Roosevelt Memorial, take a seat, enjoy the scenery & the waterfalls. Now you're halfway around the basin,on this area you'll see another Japanese lantern(?), then you'll cross the 2nd bridge, either walk infront the Jefferson Memorial or go behind, you will see magnolia trees, they bloom later! Finally, cross the 3rd bridge and you're just few meters where you started. It was 745PM when I left the basin & it's still full of people. Camera is a must! Don't forget to pack extra batteries, I didn't so halfway through I just enjoyed looking and be mesmerized! Haven't seen any bee nor insect, oh yeah, they're not fruit bearing that's why!duh!. I got hungry & thirsty too, good thing I brought bottled water & a snack bar. It was on the 80's when I was there but it was 48 that morning, so layer your clothes. I was wearing my flipflops & it was killing me by the time I was at the train station.
For photographers, early morning & dusk is the best way to go! Definitely going back next year, rain or shine. Everytime I go there, I spend 4-5hrs., I think I took picture of every tree there is,LOL!

“Ablaze in Cherry Blossoms!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

When the cherry blossoms are in bloom this is the place to be in DC. A great place for picnics and moments of reflection a the three wonderful (MLK, FDR, and Jefferson) memorials that line the Tidal Basin. Paddle boats can be rented. Pack a picnic! It is a short walk to/from the WWII or Washington Memorial.

“Lovely to walk around.... beware of high water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

The Tidal Basin now floods regularly. It is still a lovely walk but plan accordingly in case of high water. It is a LONG walk around to the Jefferson Memorial and back by the FDR and MLK memorials, but well worth it.
