“My favorite DC memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Jefferson is off the beaten path, but it's worth the trek. This memorial's design is elegant and stunning, especially when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and the memorial overlooks the tidal basin. Don't just walk in, take a walk around the columnaded back of the memorial where the light comes through in steams of shadow. It's a really beautiful building all the way around.

“ELEGANT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

This memorial has the elegance of the construction and workmanship of those times that will outlast any of our "new" concepts of what is beautiful.

“Early Morning or Late at Night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

The best times to see the Jefferson Memorial are early in the morning or late at night. Both offer opportunities to take excellent photos.

We start by stopping at the Tidewater Basin and taking photos from across the water. Parking is easy in the early morning. Just pull up, choose a spot, and start taking pictures. If you catch the sun just a short time after sunrise, the light will strike the left side of the monument and make for a stunning shot. If you're in a hurry, you can drive around to the Monument itself or you can take your time and walk the path. Once again, parking is easy as the main tourist hussle of the day has yet to start.

At night, you can take some interesting shots with a camera alone but I highly recommend a tripod so that you can take advantage of longer exposure times. Again, start on the Tidewater Basin side to get shots of the Monument from a distance. The water at night is a mirror reflecting the white marble in exact detail. The surrounding water is jet black and the contrast between the two is stunning.

Some might be scared of visiting monuments late at night but there are usually several other people hanging around in small groups. I would take a friend and be smart but I wouldn't let the nighttime scare me from the experience. Furthermore, this is a great way to take teens to see historical sites. It's much more exciting to visit at midnight than it is mid-day with hundreds of tourists.

“Fantastic! Love the Tidal Basin Pond”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Paddle Boat all around the Tidal Basin and Jefferson Memorial. Never a bad time to see the memorial and if visited at night, the illumination is amazing!
