“Some disappointment”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2014 NEW

There were some works in the area and so the information centre was in a temporary location.
You cannot visit the White House but also the surrounding area and nothing really interesting to see.

“Must see when in DC, at least go walk by”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014 NEW

The White House is a must see while in Washington DC. Unless you have booked a tour through your congress person at least 3 weeks in advance you are going to have to settle for walking by.

Our first evening in town we walked down to Pennsylvania ave but found a large amount of police officers blocking the street they instructed us the street was closed from time to time and would not be able to tell us when it would re open. We walked up a block and then back down through Lafayette Square. Once through the park we could see the reason for the street closure, a nuclear arms protest.

We were allowed to take pictures of the north side of the white house from Lafayette Square. You can get a descent look but not great. We decided to come back the next day when it was light out.

The next day Pennsylvania Ave was back opened and we were able to walk right up to the first black fence barricade right in front of the main black fence. There was also construction going on for a third barricade behind the main black fence. You can see much more in the daylight and closer helps.

We walked around the Eisenhower building and to the South Lawn area of the White House around part of the Ellipse road/sidewalk. Its a good way to look at the back of the white house but you are much further away from it from the back.

All in all it was good to see it in person. We were there the day Prince William was in town, but before he arrived, things were pretty quiet around the White House while we were there.

“2014 White House Tour- Ornaments were cheap, cheap, cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2014 NEW

We just took the White House tour today. While it was beautiful and well decorated, I was rather shocked by the lack of premium ornaments. Seriously, a lot of the ornaments looked like they came straight from Michael's. I was really surprised. I was expecting some serious craftsmanship and came away scratching my head....especially the glass icicle trees. ? They all looked like the came from Pottery Barn and some of the other decorated trees just seemed off. The Putz style tree and mantle..um, what was up with that? The houses were poorly done and the colors were off. I'll go back again when and if the next first lady has some taste. On a plus side- the high school choir from Texas was wonderful.

“Bitterly disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2014

We were all so excited to take a tour of the White House at Christmastime. The planning and communication with our Congressman (John Delaney, MD) began in September and our liaison, Taylor was very kind but woefully uninformed on protocol. We were told that all we could bring in was a small clutch and 4 of us did just that. We were denied entry because of those "Small Clutches".Those that did get in were rushed through with barely enough time to take photos. All in all it was a very disappointing experience, but I'll try it again next year. Here's the key - be sure to ask for the first grouping so you can take your time. Be sure you only carry wallet, cell phone or camera, and your keys or you'll be left out in the cold like I was. There is nowhere to store anything, nor can you find a restroom anywhere nearby. Be prepared.

“Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2014

The White House is interesting to see. It really looks bigger when you are there standing in front of it. No Tours through it though, that would've been nice. There are many little souvenir stands around it which was nice.
