“Great Location, Fun for my Son”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2009

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Liaison and found it to be very convienent to all our destinations. We used the Metro to navigate around town and Union Station is only a couple of blocks away. The rooms were very nice. We had a king bed the first night in error and were switched to our correctly booked double beds the next night. The king bed was much more comfortable! My son loved ordering the different pillows each night and the staff nicley obliged his wishes. He also loved the baby ckaes served in the Art & Soul Restaurant. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this for anyone staying in D.C.

We were in washington for the first time, found many hotels and motels, but i didn t really take notice of the bad reviews that were at the capitol hill, and to tell the truth, i enjoyed my stay there very much, the staff were helpful, even when our reservations were a little messed up due to the travel agent, the girls at the front desk , and manager were more than helpful in getting us a room, i cannot thank them enough. the pool on the roof was something i have not seen before, and my girls loved it, if you are looking for a cheap hotel in washington you will get what you pay for, at this hotel i have no complaints.

I booked a room through and online service for one night stay while traveling south. Upon arrival at 1:30 in the morning I was told there were NO rooms available, even with our confirmation however we would be put upon at the Washington Court, which is located a short distance away. At which point I had paid almost $50 to park my car and told to leave it at the Liaison because the Washington Court parking lot was full.
Then I was giving direction for myself and my 13 y/o son to WALK to the hotel carrying our luggage! The Washington court was a beautiful hotel but only had ONE king size bed per room through out the entire hotel. Sleeping with my 13 y/o is not something that was acceptable to myself or my son so he decided he would sleep on the FLOOR!
After walking back to the Liaison looking like homeless people with our luggage, I wanted to speak to a manager. I was told "she" was on her way down to the lobby and thirty minutes later I never saw her and left to go sight seeing with my son, vowing to share my experience with anyone that will listen.
I hope no one has to experience this.

I booked this hotel through a discount carrier and received a decent rate. Overall the hotel was very nice. We parked in the Union Station parking lot, as parking at the hotel is a whopping $46 a night. It was a little over a quarter mile walk-not bad. We were able to find street parking Saturday night and didn't have to pay until Monday morning- a nice bonus!!They were able to check us in early without a problem. Overall the room was nice and large. I forgot to ask for a coffee maker at check-in but they sent one up quickly after we called. Why they don't make this standard in a 4 star hotel is beyond me, but they were able to get it quickly. They didn't refill the coffee the next day, but when we found the housekeeper and asked her for it, she was quick to get us more. There was no shampoo or conditioner in the shower, a fact my husband didn't discover until already in the shower, so that was bit disappointing since we had to go search for it. The lobby has free internet, but you must pay for it in your room, again not sure why. The pool on the room is lovely. Refreshing after trekking around the city all day, and they did give us a note when we checked-in informing us of the over 21 hours on Sundays. The hotel is incredibly close to the Capitol building and all things near there, but quite far from the other end of the Mall...it was a very long walk back! The brewery restaurant around the corner was yummy and had delicious seasonal beer. Overall the hotel was pretty good for the price we paid.

I stayed at the Liason during the third week of July. Was a very positive experience in general. The most positive advantage of the Liason is its location. It is very close to everything, Union Station, the Metro etc., The service was good. The decor of the hotel is eclectic.

The only downside is that the hallways are very dark with limited lighting and old design. Is tired. The crowd ranges from a business clientele to family/tourists and a mix of young professionals. This creates some confusion at times. If you are there for business, can be a little frenetic with kids. On the other hand if there for tourism and sites with family, has a business vibe at times. So quite a mixed bag. Not unlike other Affinia properties in that way.

I got a great rate through Travelzoo that included a breakfast allotment. The hotel rooms are standard size but very stylish. The lobby also looks great and has free internet and some free drink that you can dispense yourself. You can also order drinks while you are in the lobby. How cool is that? The front desk clerks are really nice especially the really short one (caucasian, maybe katie?) and her supervisor (he was of hispanic decent).

The best thing about the hotel was the pool and location in our opinon. We were there on the weekend and on Sunday they have time for minors and after like 2 it was adults only which was totally cool because minors and families took over the pool the previous nights. Not only that, there was a pool party that guests have access to as well. It was a total suprise and I would definitely come back just for that. We could also walk to the musuems and chinatown.

My only complaints are the lack of vending/snack machines and high prices of parking. There is a 24 hr CVS close by and we used the garage at Union Station. The garages that are at the metrotrain stations are cheaper than all the garages in the city.

Dear loftiseventplanner,

We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We continue to come up with creative and innovative ways, like our Sunday pool parties, which have become one of DC’s most sought after events, that allow our guests to enjoy the city on our rooftop. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

My fiancée and I booked a room at The Liaison very last-minute (in fact, when we were already in Washington, because staying at the home of relatives, as planned, turned out to be less than ideal). We got a great Internet rate and had time for only a perfunctory glance at tripadvisor ratings and reviews. As others have noted, the hotel is new, sleek, and clean, the beds are comfortable, and it's located a very short walk from Capitol Hill and a slightly longer one to attractions downtown and along the Mall. The bathrooms are small and the non-stop techno music in the lobby gets under your skin after a while, but all in all, it offers a good bang for your buck (we paid just over $212 US, tax included, for two nights!).

My big, overshadowing caveat, however, is the weekly Sunday pool party mentioned by one other reviewer. The hotel's rooftop pool was a big draw for us on our only weekend getaway of the summer. After our second day of trekking around the city in 90-degree weather, we couldn't wait to hit the pool for a refreshing swim and happy hour. We returned to the hotel to find it hopping with loud rap and dance music and crawling with dozens and dozens of people who were obviously not all guests at the hotel. Security guards posted by the elevators asked us if we were going to the pool. We changed into our bathing suits and tried our luck, but by the time we'd squeezed our way into sight of the pool, it was clear we could forget about our much-anticipated poolside relaxation.

We headed to the front desk to register our disappointment. We spoke to a manager named Jonathan, who immediately told us that The Liaison's "DC-wide weekly Sunday pool party" is advertised throughout the city. I replied that (surprise, surprise!) we were from out of town and that we hadn't been informed of the party at check-in, for which he apologized. Jonathan said he would speak to the hotel director about compensating us and that he would call our room soon with news. We checked out at 1 p.m. the following day without ever hearing a word from hotel management.

Upon returning home, I checked the hotel's Web site for information on the weekly pool party. On the "Rooftop pool" page, it does indeed say that the pool is open to adults 21 and over only on Sundays from 1 p.m. to close. It says nothing, however, about the party and the massive influx of revellers from all over the city.

Something to consider as you plan your stay in DC...
