“Informative, but a little self congratulatory”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

This covers news and current events very well. It has several interactive displays that kids and adults will both like. It speaks to the value of a free press and how that contributed to many historic events. That is the area where it get a little self promoting. However, I would never want to live in a society of a "gagged" press.

“Well worth the time and money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2012

The Newseum is a favorite for everyone. I am a DC guide and take visitors to all of the museums and attractions in the cuty. No one seems to mind paying for this museum because it is so informative and interesting (especially when I add personal stories about such things as the Berlin wall). Be sure to see the 4D video. Kids love it and actually learn at the same time!

“Unexpectedly great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

The Newseum was recommended in our guidebook, and I was ambivalent-- already tired of walking around, yet another thing to see in DC. But WOW was I wrong! The Newseum was so worth the time!
We followed the self-guided tour through the building-- saw amazing stuff!
Parts of the Berlin Wall, and footage of it coming down-- gave me goosebumps.
While we were there, there was a display of the history of the Pulitzer Prize photographs, which brought both my husband and myself to tears.
We could've spent the whole day there, or gone back another day-- alas, no time when rushing to see everything DC had to offer. But I highly recommend checking the Newseum out, it's well worth your time!

“Fun afternoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

Who wants to spend the day reading the news, what fun is that? I live in Washington and drive by the Newseum often and had no desire to go in. Well, I certainly changed my tune once inside. My 13 year old son is really not interested in news, however he found interesting clips to watch and listen to and walked away having had a good day. I felt the best part of the Newseum was the integration of so many interpretation styles to reach all ages and interests. Each section of the Newseum offered several different media depicting essentially the same story so your whole group can be involved using their own interpretive style. Kudos to the Newseum for understanding that everyone learns in a different way and edutainment is possible. The Newseum is not just about news reported, it is the history of how and why news is reported. Very interesting museum and very different from the Smithsonian museums.

“Worth Every Penny!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

Six-year-old nephew must have read every headline in the place. He was fascinated. He balked at the interviewer activity where you can get a video giving a news story. He was also a bit traumatized by the section on Hurricane Katrina. All in all, very educational and interesting, even for the little ones.
