“If you love scenic drives, don't miss the Needles Highway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This is a great scenic drive to do while in the Black Hills. There are lots of twists and turns as the road takes you high up into the hills. The views are fantastic! The tunnels are fun to drive through!!

“What a surprise in the middle of the plains!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

After hours of driving in the plains, we were amazed to come upon this gem. The highway wasn't crowded, which was good beause we had to continually go through low and narrow tunnels. On the sides of the highway were unique rock formations with the highlight being the Needle's Eye. This is a must-do!!!!

“Needles Highway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

This is a longer trip up to Mt. Rushmore, so be prepared, take snacks & water if you need them. It's beautiful, but it's a long and very curvy highway. There are a few places to stop and use the restroom. It is worth the trip, just be prepared with things you might need. Don't forget to stop at the "eye" of the needle. Spectacular views, lots of switch-backs.

“Fab views at ever turn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

The Needles highway is a must do when you are in the area. Highway 87/89 is part of the 70 miles of loop road that make up the Peter Norbeck scenic byway and its all worth doing if you have the time. The Needles road is fun to drive as it twists and turns. There are lots of hairpin turns, tunnels and its steep in parts so take it slow and enjoy the stunning vistas. There are lots of pullouts but they can get very crowded. We were on the road by 8am and had it mainly to ourselves and it was lovely and peaceful. The Cathedral Spires are fab. Enjoy, we did.
