“Call first...CLOSED!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

Call before making the two hour (each way) drive from Silver City. They had closed due to high winds and we had no idea until we arrived after the very challenging drive. Then, turn around and do the drive back. I'm sure that the dwellings are impressive and we could have rearranged our schedule if there were road signs advising of the closure. Won't be making that mistake again.

“great day trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

we drove from the bear creek cabins (a great place to stay). took about an hour and a half. people at the visitor center were very nice, they have some great books. hiked up to cave #1 for the 11:00 tour which was very interesting. the hike up was not the easiest thing I've ever done, but even for old retired people, it was do-able and definitely worth it. brought sandwiches and ate in the parking lot. no food for sale there and you can't bring anything but water up to the caves. bathrooms available in the parking lot at the bottom.

“Great Place with Neat History.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

We stayed about 45 mins away at the Georgetown Cabin Resort and this place was highly recommended. The drive was beautiful! The scenery of the mountains and Canyon Lake were absolutely breathtaking! Almost like a prelude to the Cliff Dwellings. It's a short easy hike to get to the top of the Cliff Dwellings but the view is amazing. The cliffs were created by volcanic activity and were inhabited by Mogollon peoples between 1275 and 1300 AD. Although only a few rooms are open now to the public, 46 rooms in the five caves, and believed they were occupied by 10 to 15 families. It is not known why the dwellings were abandoned.

Walking through I was amazed and could totally visualize how this home kept them safe from weather and predators.

Pretty cool site. Must See!

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The road to get there is slow and windy. It is a hike to get to the cliff dwellings. The result ... BEAUTIFUL views. Plenty of volunteers to tell you about the dwellings. We completely enjoyed our time at the dwellings.
