We just spent a long weekend exploring the area around Eminence, MO...it was so beautiful!
The Jacks Fork and Current rivers converge in the area and it is a prime floating area, whether you are in a canoe, inner tube, or raft.
We were there on a holiday weekend and parts of the Jack Fork River were extremely busy...luckily we had put our canoe in about 4.5 miles before the congestion began, so for about 4 hours we were the only ones around to enjoy the incredible scenery of the Ozarks.
A couple of tips for campers...Two of the most popular areas are Alley Springs and Round Spring. These are nice, but if you want wild nature, look elsewhere (although I would camp at Round Spring). We camped at Bay Creek and really loved it (we were able to put our canoe in right from our site)..but next time, I think we will head down the Current River side and camp near Rocky Falls. Call the forest district and ask them to send you a map of the area. It was invaluable to us, but we didn't get it until we got down there.
Get the map and use it to explore the area, so many hidden roads and places to explore. Don't miss Blue Spring, there are two...the one on the Current River side is a deep torquoise blue..it looks fake (you can't go in this one, but don't miss it!) The other one is on the Jacks Fork side and you can swim in it. Rocky Falls and the Devil's Well are amazing as well.
We were driving on K highway on our way to take the Ferry across the river (it costs $4 and was a fun experience) and stopped at an Amish family's house to buy a handmade basket. So many surprises along the way....we have much more area to cover, we are thinking of taking friends and tubing down the Current next time we go.
