“Sail or Power Boat Port of Call”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

If you are interested in a low-key but fun experience with the locals of the Chesapeake Bay we would recommend Swan Creek & Rock Hall, Maryland. If you are a boater and need a safe haven from storms or hurricanes, both offer a great spot to hole up. Rock Hall is on the Bay with a rock wall jetty to keep the swells to a tolerable level. If you're hiding out from a hurricane then around the back side is Swan Creek where you can tuck in deep into the creek for either a marina slip or good holding ground with adequate swing room; however, for a hurricane the slip may be the way to go. There are six marinas and these folks are quite accustomed to handling heavy weather, no matter what.
For normal visits, Swan Creek's marinas are an easy walk to Rock Hall where the action is; if you're on the creek it will be peaceful but with plenty of amenities to take care of you, including several restaurants and bars and ships' stores, plus swimming pools if you like more of a club environment. The town of Rock Hall runs a shuttle back and forth every day and evening during the high season for only $1.00 per trip, and it is quite reliable. The folks at the marinas and in the marinas are very friendly, and dogs are allowed everywhere. The locals are welcoming also- they understand the value of visiting yachstmen and regular tourists and appreciate it as well. Rock Hall has a small main street with shops and restaurants, with most of them themed to the Bay and nautical interests. No pretense here, just a beautiful and friendly stopover.

“Nice little town to walk around in”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

We went there while in Washington, and found that is was much more pleasant to visit than the city... we got away from all the noise and spent the afternoon on the boardwalk... well worth a trip. The small stores you find there is recommended also, I think it was called Sues sweets... very good.

“Great day trip!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

Small, quaint town with great canal views! Not many shops but enough to keep you busy for a few hours. Two or more waterfront restaurants to just sit, relax, eat and enjoy the view. About an hour from the Philadelphia, PA area. A nice place to visit for lunch or dinner and a few hours of shopping. I went on a weekday, I think it would be more enjoyable on a weekend as I think there would be more activities going on. Worth the trip though.

“Selinas II Sailing Charter, Chesapeake Bay, Maryland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2011

The trip aboard the beautiful Selinas II was tremendous and a wondersful way to spend the day on the Chesapeake Bay- well worth the money. The sailboat is gorgeous and truly a work of historical significance. Captain Iris and mate Frank are extraordinarily hospitable and provide a wonderful experience (you can help raise the sail or just sit back and relax). We enjoyed my wife's birthday with a two-hour cruise- the sailing was wonderful; Captain Iriis, a third-generation captain of the Selinas, provided a terrific lesson on the physics of sailing as well as the maritime history of the area. And, more than that, they cereated a wonderful memory. Suggestion: stop by the local St Michael gourmet market to grab some cheese, bread and wine to enjoy while on the boat. Or Captain Iris has some good wine and champagne aboard.
