“We Had the Lake to Ourselves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

No one there till 11 am. Caught a couple of trout when it was quiet. Nice little lake. Boat rental. No food or bait. Facilities are getting an upgrade. Museum. Campground is nice but $35. Day use $8. Beautiful Setting, though you can hear I 80 noise. Overall a nice park to visit

“Great Alpine Lake Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Not like Lake Tahoe ... small, calm. scenic, and quiet. A lot of history in the area so stop at the state park. Great scenic hikes to the old railroad tunnels and the Donner Pass trails. Well worth the stop

“Donner Lake a hidden secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Sure Lake Tahoe is world famous, but if you want a quaint gorgeous Alpine Lake, spend time here at Donner Lake. The water is warmer, and the lake is flatter for wakeboarding or kayaking.

“Camping. The way to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

Donner Memorial State Park Camping is great! The campsites each come with plenty of space, they're very clean, lots of storage for your stuff, and plenty of bathrooms and showers! We had a great time. The lake is close enough to ride your bike or walk. The water was not as cold as we thought it would be and is beautiful! Canoes, boats, kayaks, paddle boats, and surfboards are available to rent! We'll be baaaaccckkkkk!

“Donner Lake Jewel of the Sierras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Donner Lake is much smaller than its cousin Tahoe. But oh so pretty! A few good restaurants (casual) are sprinkled around the lake.
