“Great Alpine Lake Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

Not like Lake Tahoe ... small, calm. scenic, and quiet. A lot of history in the area so stop at the state park. Great scenic hikes to the old railroad tunnels and the Donner Pass trails. Well worth the stop

“Donner Lake a hidden secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Sure Lake Tahoe is world famous, but if you want a quaint gorgeous Alpine Lake, spend time here at Donner Lake. The water is warmer, and the lake is flatter for wakeboarding or kayaking.

“Camping. The way to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Donner Memorial State Park Camping is great! The campsites each come with plenty of space, they're very clean, lots of storage for your stuff, and plenty of bathrooms and showers! We had a great time. The lake is close enough to ride your bike or walk. The water was not as cold as we thought it would be and is beautiful! Canoes, boats, kayaks, paddle boats, and surfboards are available to rent! We'll be baaaaccckkkkk!

“Donner Lake Jewel of the Sierras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

Donner Lake is much smaller than its cousin Tahoe. But oh so pretty! A few good restaurants (casual) are sprinkled around the lake.

“Beautiful, peaceful lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Donner Lake can get easily missed when headed to Lake Tahoe. It is a beautiful lake that has so much to offer. You can visit the museum, rent water toys and boats, go to the beach, camp, fish, hike,. etc.. I love to go to one of the public docks and just hang out for a few hours. If the dock does not have a gate, you can go on. It is best in the morning and early afternoon. As with
Tahoe, it is best to ski in the morning. We usually come here mid vacation just to chill and get on the water. It is never over-crowded. The public beach is fun too! Old fashion fun that never goes out of style.
