“Nice Drive, Great View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon I decided to make the drive to Desert View Watchtower and viewing area. This is located 25 miles east of the main road (Hwy 64) into the park. The speed limit is 35-45 mph due to the curvy road and wildlife.

It is a very nice drive and at the end are more unique views of the Grand Canyon. You can climb to various levels of the tower and step outside for additional viewing and/or enjoy the view from the general area around the tower.

I spent about 90 minutes here and was glad to have made the trip. Well worth the drive (which isn't that long) and I would definitely stop here again. Highly recommend.

“Wow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

I've been to the Grand Canyon before but never knew the Desert View Mary Colter Watchtower was there until I did some searching on the internet. I'm surprised it's not on the park brochure map. The Watchtower is all the way near the east entrance. It's also no where near as crowded as the main entrance --which is awesome. We even got to see 2 elks grazing near the Watchtower. Apparently, they are there often. The Watchtower itself is beautiful! It stands right on the edge of the rim & blends nicely with it's surroundings. The 1st floor of the watchtower is a gift shop. You can take the stairs to the top floor for even more amazing views of the Grand Canyon. Definitely a must see if you're visiting!

“A must see while at the Grand Canyon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

We stopped at the Desert View Watch tower not expecting much and it was fantastic! Just looking at the tower and seeing the amazing stonework and different windows made you appreciate the tower itself. Then you could enter the tower and climb the steps to, I think, 3 different levels. The phenominal art drawings all over the walls and ceilings were fantastic to look at. They had a little booklet that you could look at that explained every thing in the tower and it's construction. The Drawings were so bright and vivid and have not been touched up in the many years they have been there. There are also great views of the Grand Canyon from the top of the tower. Don't miss this stop on the rim of the Grand Canyon!!

“A Gem!”

We decided to stop by here after doing a little internet search. We were not disappointed! The view was spectacular! It was a 50 mile round-trip drive to get there, but well worth it.

“This is a View!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Wow! really great views - away from all the hustle and bustle and a female architect with a respect for the Native traditions. Be certain to walk up the tower and step outside. spectacular views and as you climb up, each level has more history inside.
