I have just got back from the Playa pesquero and me and my partner had the best holiday ever!

Dont believe all these reviews that put it down as there is nothing to put down about the hotel!! 99% of the staff are fantastic a few grumpy bar staff but for the amount of people that worked at the hotel that was nothing! Rooms were spacious for the two of us bathroom nice size. Complex is rather large but they do provide buggys to get you around

Restaurants were all good the Seafood a'la carte was the best the grill and romantic were also very good - feels like you are eating in proper restuarants when you eat at the a'la cartes as you get searved at your table rather than at the buffett helping yourselves when sometimes getting a drink could be a little slow!!
If you are ther on a tuesday they do a 'cuban' afternoon were they have fresh coffee cuban soup and spit roast pig which is roasted all day and is yummmmmmyy!!

Havana trip very expensive so we passed on this one.

We did Mangrove fishing brilliant very hot though as was just us 2 and the best guide ever in a tiny boat - if you do this ask for Osmide - great guy!! also get to try your fish after how nicE!(£20 per person)

Blue and Green jeep safari was good for getting arounf seeing different areas and what a proper cuban village looks like (they are poor some of the houses i found quite shockin) also do speedboating and watch a traditional indian show on this trip. (£50 ish pounds)

Speedboating good fun out in boats for about an hour both get to drive (around £22 per person)

Swimming with dolphins is a must dont just book the dolphin trip though - book the boat one which includes dolphin swim. for only around £8 extra each we got lunch and the rest of day on a boat and snokelling the best trip out for me, my partner enjoyed fishing the most.

Pool is huge plenty of room for everyone, beach again plenty of room and loads of sunbeds very peaceful.

Tip guides/hotel staff if done good service its very apprecated but dont feel pressure to as its your choice and 99% of them dont expect you to even though one night there was a bit of favtism at the bar with one group of people with a bar person as they has paid him off to serve them first rather than wait for a drink like everyone else!!

Just returned from this vast resort and not many complaints, the resort itself is excellent value for money with a fantastic swimming pool that my daughter loved and beautiful beach that really summed up Cuba. The food had a good variety of restaraunts, buffet was ok a bit cold sometimes which really bugged by mum! but you can always find something you like.
The Mosquito's were a problem even though the previous reveiws said you have to come prepared and expect this we are frequent travellers to this type of climate also Cuba and have never experienced the amount of bites putting all kinds of repellant and room plug ins it resulted in my father getting injections twice a day for the holiday and also getting a bite cut away due to the danger of poison travelling through his system so be more than prepared. The doctor on site showed great concern and supplied my parents with an excellent service during our stay.

The restaraunts require full leg trousers even though the air con doesnt work which we found a discrace as my husband was turned away for wearing 3/4 length linen trousers and yet people were wearing tacksuit bottoms!

The Kids entertainment was really not good we had a seven year old and if she never met a friend on the plane she would have struggled with having fun so Thank You Olivia !
The kids Disco was rubbish with only a few songs being played and no Air Con in 99% humidity so not good ( something to be improved).

All in all I wouldnt return to this resort, not that I diddnt enjoy my stay but I have visited twice to Cuba now and I would like to experience more of the world enjoy your holiday if you have booked as I am sure you will.

Stayed at Playa Pesquero 24 June - 8 July 2009... Flew from Manchester and experienced delays on the way there but cant let that spoil the holiday spirit!!!
Arrived in Cuba - had to fill in a form - had we had a cold/temperature/cough in the last 2 weeks. Suspected that i would get put in quarentine if i answered yes to the above (who in england hasnt had a bug recently?!) and tried to not look ill going through customs!!!
Hotel first impressions - lovely.. just wanted bed so opted for room service (5 CUC each time) - food is abit pants. everything comes with chips so if you like chips you will be fiiine. if not the room service is a little limiting. also a warning about cuban salads - aparently cold brocoli and cabbage is salad. a little strange but fair enough.
Welcome meeting - hard to understand what is going off if you sit at the back (like us!!) went straight to book a la carte restaurants which took an AGE. there was only one woman on the computer sorting them out when we were there. not good so go get yourself some drinks from the bar before attempting that one.
Rooms are clean- a little dated but never the less. bed broken so had to prop it up with harry potter books!!!!! had a little issue with the bathroom ceiling (room 2011) when it fell in. boyfriend couldnt mend it so was up to me to fix it!!! had to request a bath plug from reception - unsure if this goes for everyone. i sound like i am being picky but the room was overall nice and large - air con worked, fridge a little temperamental but when it did work was cold!!!
Breakfast in the buffet restaurant was ok - im not a big breakfast person so a few slices of toast and some pineapple was perfect for me. the boyfriend had all sorts for breakfast - omlettes, chicken (??) and eggs etc.
Lunchtime food - the buffet in the grill restaurant by the pool was ok - a woman at a pasta station was the best option but did the usual chips.burgers, hot dogs etc. good selection of fruit here and nice prawns although WHY were the toilets the most discusting things i had ever experienced? apparently people who go to the grill forget how to flush the toilet. NOT NICE.
Chicken restaurant i wasnt a major fan of. my boyfriend is a major health freak so didnt get on too well with the chicken or chips and the salad consisted of tomatos and cabbage. yum.
Went to the trattoria a few times - spag bol was nice. The beach bar does really good fish and chicken for dinner. again burgers for the burger crew. this turned into a really nice seafood a la carte in the evening. our first trip to this restaurant was gorgeous ... had the smoked salmon and shrimp (king prawns) which were both lovely. i am quite a picky eater. The service the first time here was amazing aswell so was happy to tip her for excellent time but second time was a little sloppy.
Romantic restaurant was nice - aircon broken first time we visited but fixed by the second. Enjoyed both meals here and at the nearby la gondola although they were both an absolute mission to find. got lost several times!!! Didnt try the asian due to poor reviews on this website. grill was ok.
Warning for red wine - they will try to give you practically frozen bottles!!! if you like it room temperature look out for it!!!
Beach was gorgeous - been to several caribbean islands now - antigua, barbados and tortola and this was as good as any!!! if not better since i did not get harassed by people trying to sell me things although i think my boyfriend was approached a few times with 'magic cigars' :S... the pool area was nice although we stuck to the quieter side.
Internet use - can buy 1hour card for 8 CUC not bad. quite slow but gets the job done!!!
We went on 2 excursions - Dining with dolphins and the island paradise.
Dining with dolphins was pants. wouldnt do it again. the actual dolphin bit would have been good if it hadnt been in a dirty discusting pool. yuk. had lobster which i found i am not a massive fan of then had to sit and watch entertainment when i just wanted to go home.
island paradise was lovely - up early though and a MASSIVELY long coach trip on bumpy cuban roads which was not a great combo for me - sickly! the catamaran journey was lovely and snorkelling was ok although im personally not a big fan of fish!!! was also abit cloudy couldnt see too much. had lunch on the island and went on the safari ride which was fun. there were TONNES of flies on this island so TAKE YOUR INSECT REPELLANT. LOTS OF IT.
Take lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen just in case. my boyfriend was ill and we got charged £80 for basic medication and a doctors consultation. also ibuprofen or something. take lots.
weather was wonderful. wished we didnt have to come home. any questions i will happily answer xxx

We stayed at Playa Pesquero from 23 June to 7 July, and this was our second visit, we were there previously in March 2006.

Firstly many many thanks to Jose-Luis Perez in the sales dept for the free upgraded the family suite this was very much appreciated!

Here goes, be very carefuly when you arrive at the airport as all the Cubans are wearing Green masks to protect themselves and their country from Swine Flu, we know of a few families that were taken to hospital for 5/6 days as they had a slight temperature or looked unwell...teething babies were included in this. We were told the hospital conditions are really bad...No fresh water or suitable sanitary facilities, so try to look fit and healthy when you land...Not easy after a long flight !! Oh and if you get ill whilst on the resort, dont see the doctor as if you have a temperature they will pack you off to hospital .......!! They are really really cautious about Swine Flu.

If its your first visit then you will have no complaints however if you are returning like Champios said on an earlier review the resort really has gone down hill. Only one buffet was open, No Van going around sprayin Mosquito Killer, and once you get bitten believe me they wil not stop,,,,and no matter what you use they wont give up and be prepared to scratch like mad.....Take Piriton with you especially if you have small children.

The A la cartes are nice and the beach and swimming pool id perfect, no probs with sun loungers etc....

So like I said earlier go for it if its your first time but if you are planning on re visiting from previous years you will be disappointed as its really gone down hill.

Ps GHDS do work in the resort......!!!!

Having thoroughly enjoyed a 2 week holiday at PP in Sept 2006, my wife and I returned on 17.6.09. We travelled with a couple whom we met in Dom Rep in 2002 and with whom we have stayed in touch. They were 1st time visitors to Cuba, so our party looked at the holiday from different perspectives.

On the plus side the beach and pool are just as stunning as we remembered them, and the snorkelling just off the beach is no less impressive for having seen the many different kinds of fish before.

Me and my friend played beach cricket every day until a new group of travellers took up residence under our wicket (tree) - biggest disappointment of the holiday when we saw them there!!! Seriously though, if we bothered you with the ball-sorry.

The first disappointment for us was the closure of the speciality vegeatarian restaurant, my wife is a veggie and we both enjoyed visits there in 2006.

One thing that struck me was that whilst many of the staff are excellant and are always ready to greet you with a smile, there are an equal number for whom serving you is something of a chore. I would estimate that whether you recive good or poor service now is a 50:50 chance, 3 years ago it was more like 90:10, with just the odd one having an attitude.
A point I would like to make is that by poor service I do not mean slow service. I am not bothered if I have to wait 25 mins for a Playa Pesquero Burger or 10 mins at the bar for a drink. I'm on holiday and whats the rush? Unfortunately I mean quite rude service. Our group always smiled, said please and thankyou in Spanish, and usually left a tip at the end of a meal, even in the buffet. But many of the staff would seem to ignore us.
One day in the Trattoria we received particularly dismissive looks from the waitress when we requested a bread roll, and she made it clear when pouring us drinks that she didnt want to serve us, so deceided not to leave a tip at the end of the meal. We returned to give it another go a couple of days later, and the waitress politely took our order so we looked forward to our meal. My friend and I ordered a PP burger. We both ate a mouthful and promptly spat it out. On lifting the bread bun and egg we saw a piece of meat that had never been a burger. It smelt rancid and was not comprised of ground beef or ham but was a dark slab of meat, the like of whch I have never seen before. I had to run off to the Beer Garden loo to be sick and then went to get an ice-cream to take the taste from my mouth. As my mate said 'fair play to them-they've done us!'. We both had diahorrea for the next (last day) of our hols.

Other (minor) disappointments are things like the maids not leaving coffee or towels, the mini-bar guy only leaving 1 beer or cola, and the range of international brand drinks at the lobby bar being limited to Martini and Pernod. These are very minor things, but never happened when we visited before. Of course these things didnt really bother our friends as they had no basis for comparing it to before.

Another irritation is that they only fumugated on our last day, after the mossies had enjoyed a 13 day 4 star plus all inclusive feast on my legs and ankles.

The food is better at night than during the day, as many people have said already you can get meat/fish/pasta cooked, and some of the speciality restuarant food is just fantastic, I would particularly recommend the lobster at Seafood restaurant and the Fillet steak at Romantica, both were fantastic and you could expect to pay 20 quid plus for either dish in the UK.

The friends who travelled with us have gone to 5 star hotels in Europe the last couple of years, so I was a bit concerned as to what they would make of the food at PP. They took what I think was a very reasonable view that the food was generally ok, and for the price (800GBP/2weeks) it remains good value.
The perspective of me and my wife is slightly different because we have seen a deterioration in service and attitude of quite a few of the staff, and that would be the reason that we would not return.

The Beer Gardens still great though!
