We travelled from May 2nd to May 9th, 2013. We were there for my niece's wedding.
So I do have a few negatives, but the positives out way the negatives.
First of all, I do not think this resort is worth the price that we paid, we paid over 1300.00 pp for this resort and I think for what we got and the time of year that we travelled, that 1100.00pp is more than fair.We could only get an afternoon flight, I hate that, we are avid travellers and prefer the 6-8 am flights. The resort is an hour away from the airport and landing at 7:30 pm, by the time you get thru customs, gather your luggage and get on the bus it is almost dark, so you have no clue where you are going.
Arrival to the resort and check in: Perfect, we were a large group and they had us checked in and taken care of right away and were whisked off to our room immediately. Half of our group had arrived the day before from Nova Scotia, so we wanted to drop our bags in the room and go back and visit.
Because we had arrived so late, the buffet was already closed, but they were kind enough to have some finger foods for us, I did not try them but my sister and her husband were oohing and aughing, so it must have been good.
Rooms: I did not have a problem here, we thought about upgrading to the villa's but did not think it was worth it as we would not be spending a lot of time in the room on this trip. The bathrooms are more than adequate, the beds are big and comfortable, the tv's are new and the mini-bar has nice cold drinks. The rooms are a very good size.
Service: Beyond reproach. We never heard no all week, if they could not supply it they told you, which only happened once. I was so happy with the attitudes of the employees at this resort, they were happy to be there and and were always smiling and saying good morning, it was not forced.
Beach: Beautiful, yes it is rocky but you can get into the water easily in a few different areas. The water is warm and not rough in the least. We went in every day. They have lots of shade, it is just that there are hoggers. It is amazing, this only happens in Cuba (reserving of chairs), this is the Europeans, the Canadians are way to laid back to care.
The pool: I thought the pool was perfect, lots of room for everyone to move around and fun. The pool bar was great, the bartenders work hard and are always willing to accomodate.
Spa: I did the spa three times, all three were great, I had my hair done for the wedding. I had a neck and shoulder massage, and then we had a couples massage. We often go to the spa when we travel, so I can honestly say that the therapists we had ( my niece had a nasty experience) were very good and the prices was more than fair.
Food: The morning buffet is more than adequate, you have lots to choose from and they have lots of food stations. The one thing I did like is that they had a seperate station for omelets. If you just wanted eggs any style you went to an other grill. It keeps the line-ups down. The lunch buffet left alot to be desired, we tried it twice and were not impressed. We ate the rest of the time at the pool restaurant or the beach restaurant, both were very good. You have to try the deep fried fish and chips at the beach bar, I could not get enough of them. We ate at the dinner buffet twice and it was just ok. We did all of the alacartes. I would say that the cuban was the best food wise. They were all good, but because there was so many of us it was hard to find a place where everyone was happy.
Bars: I was more than happy with the service at the bars, the quality of the liquor they served and the bartenders as a whole were all exceptional. For a change the wine was very good. I only tried the white. I love champagne and only had a few mixed drinks, but everyone else in the group became addicted to the miami vices. I never had one but I guess you should try, if you like the mixed drinks.
Room service: exceptional is all I can say.
Overall cleanliness: this resort is very clean and well laid out. I had just had foot surgery before we went here and was very worried about being able to get around. We were centrally located and we never had to walk more than 5 minutes to get anywhere. You never saw garbage or any areas unkept, and the way the incorporated the local fauna and flora into the resort was impressive.
Excersions: We did not do any of the regular excersions, but we did take the horse and buggy ride one day and the catameran another. My husband raved about the caterman for a few days after that, he enjoyed it very much.
Overall: So overall I rated this resort at a 4 a 4.5 might be a stretch.
My last note is the airport in Holguin- awful, is all I can say.
This was our third trip to Cuba, my husband says this was the best, but I still say that the Sandals in Varadero was better, only because of the flight time and the distance to the resort . They both definanitely outshine the memories pariso.
We will not return to Cuba again three times is more than enough. Back to our true love Mexico!
We stayed in buiding 41, but all rooms have great views
