“Luxury in Cuba???”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2009

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on our 3 week Cuba road trip and we thought this hotel was the most luxurious of the ones that we stayed in. Travelling through the narrow streets of Trinidad, it was impossible to imagine such a gem would exist. We were greeted upon arrival with a welcoming cocktail and refreshment towels, and subsequently informed that we would be staying in the best room of the hotel overlooking the town square. It was a delightful end to a busy day travelling many miles on the bumpy roads of cuba. The hotel is very plush for cuban standards with staff very friendly and facilities as good as you will get anywhere in cuba. The building is extremely elegant within the town square and car parking facilites are 'parking in the street outside'. This area has cameras for extra security, although i doubt if they are really required.

The rooms were very spacious, and we had a private balcony overlooking the square. This came in handy during the evening when the festival was in full flow and presented an ideal location to view the passing floats with cuban dancers. Fantastic experience. The hotel is within an ideal location with all main sights only 5-10 minute walk, with the only downside being no swimming pool. The quality of the hotel more than makes up for this though. The food was a good standard for breakfast and dinner and we would recommend spending some time in the piano bar to listen to the resident pianist whom we would rank as the best we have ever heard. We talked to him in broken spanish/english and he was extremely friendly showing us pictures of his family.

Trinidad is an excellent town and we would strongly recommend this hotel even although it is the most expensive in the area. Try and view some local art as the quality and prices are astounding and also spend some time listening to the old cuban men jamming on the street leading to the cathedral. Excellent! We would definately return to Trinidad and the Grand Hotel.

Iberostar Trinidad is a well renovated colonial hotel at the very heart of one of the most beautiful cities in Cuba. The hotel is elegant and comfortable, and is clearly a peace haven in the city.

I have been impressed by the quality of materials and furniture, which clearly differentiate this hotel from other Cuban hotels of the same category.

Rooms are large and equipped with marble, modern bathrooms, excellent beds and nice pieces of furniture. Some of the rooms have a terrace or a balcony with an pleasant view on the street. Free access to low bandwidth Internet is granted in the pool room.

There is no private parking for those who rent a car, but hotel guards keep an eye on your vehicle in front of the hotel.

The restaurant room and the lobby are beautiful, and the quality of breakfast is acceptable. I didn’t tried dinner, the room seemed too empty and I preferred a lively place downtown.

One of the clear weaknesses of the hotel is the service. Those things may change, but we found personnel relatively unhelpful at the reception and at the restaurant. As an example, we’ve been waiting for a computer in the Internet room during 15mn while a safety guard from the hotel was quietly surfing on adult websites without caring about us… Probably a collateral damage of the Internet restrictions imposed to Cuban people ;-D

The Iberostar is clearly not the cheapest alternative in town, and it is even a bit overpriced, given that there is no access to a swimming pool or other services which could justify such a (comparatively) high price. But as far as I’m aware of, other hotels in Trinidad are really several notches below this one and the only valuable option would be a B&B, which is a very different way of traveling in Cuba anyway.

I recommend this hotel to those who want to preserve a dimension of romance and elegance to their trip to Trinidad.

Everything nice, from personnel to rooms. Only thing missing: a swimming pool. And internet is very slow as usual in Cuba...
Excellent place to stay a few days and explore the beautiful city of Trindad.
We enjoyed our time.
The cleaning personnel is a bit spoiled on getting tips and will clearly show that, too bad the reception desk thought there was a towel missing which they had not counted properly (on purpose?).... but that was the only flaw during our stay. Get a room with a full balcony at the front and you will enjoy nightlife while relaxing yourself with a splendid view...

The hotel is very beautiful (recently updated and renovated) and the rooms are large. The bathroom was very good, although we managed to get water running into the bedroom every time we showered! The hotel provide bath robes and the towels are left in pretty shapes (we had swans and an elephant). The lights were complicated (needed help to get them to come on!). The restaurant was good but the waiting staff were a bit too attentive - whisking things away almost before you have set them down and regardless if other people at your table are still eating (a small bugbear of mine!). Walked to Casa de la Trova, a meeting place for locals and as soon as anyone turns up, the music starts and so does the dancing. Walked back at 1am and didn't feel at all ill at ease.

Rooms were spacious and luxurious, the staff friendly and helpful. However, our room had no balcony or terrace (- we had been expecting one -) and there was no public space in which to escape the fierce air-conditioning.

Nicely designed, in every corner there is something interesting. The staff was very friendly. All the rooms had a terrace or a balcony, we had an excellent one looking at the square.

Only, the breakfast was not very good, so we did not try their restaurant at night.

The Iberostar is located on one of the main squares of Trinidad (the one the locals use rather than the historic square of the old town). It's a great location in a very interesting city. The rooms are clean, the service is good, the staff are very friendly and the restaurant is OK (not great, but OK).

We had a room at the front of the hotel, which was generally OK, although it was rather noisy on the Saturday night of our visit (as I said the square is one of the focal points for the locals to meet up). It wasn't a problem for us (these days we sleep through anything!) - it gives a good sense of being in the heart of a lively city - but if you're sensitive to noise you might want to request a room at the rear of the hotel.
