“Lovely hotel and good service..generally”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 3 nights in early June. Hotel rooms are impeccable and attractive lobby and good dining room. Great breakfast choice and staff helpful mostly. Arranged taxis etc for playa del ancon.

A couple of gripes however...

Stayed on 2nd floor facing square. As noted by another recent reviewer, the windows aren't great so when the music strikes up in the square late in the evenings (until after 3) the noise travels right through. Earplugs are handy.

Internet is free but when we we there it was very erratic and didn't work reliably and the desk staff were not too bothered when asked. We had to go to the Etecsa office opposite twice as we needed to check ongoing travel. 6 Cucs per hour.

One evening when we ate in the hotel we were not able to add the bill to the room charge due to a system problem so had to pay cash. Very strange and inconvenient.

The criticisms are not huge and may seem picky but jarred when the hotel is generally so nice.

Dear Roboncio

We appreciate your nice comments and apologize for the inconvenience caused by street music, believe us that we have undertaken every possible action with the local authorities in order to limit the intensity and duration of such urban events, but we must confess that up to now we have not gotten anything positive . Nevertheless we will continue insisting, even at higher levels, in order to preserve the rest of our guests.

I am truly sorry if it may have seemed that our employees do not care if the customer has problems with the internet conecction , but the truth is that we are not able to do anything to improve it , since Etecsa , our supplier, cannot provide any better signal.

What is not justified is that an internal issue adversely affects the quality of the service to our customers. We have talked with the head of department and we have taken all measures to ensure that such negligence never happens again.

Once again, I really appreciate your constructive comments which highlight specific areas that we need to rectify to improve our standards, and to reach for a perfect service.

In Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad we all work with that goal in mind and we will not stop until we have achieved it.

Best Regards,

Lovely hotel. Very centrally located in the old town so all sights/bars/cave nightclub are within walking distance. Exactly what you want in a 4/5 star hotel. Nice staff organised excursions for us to the waterfalls. Loved Trinidad in general!

We have both travelled extensively around the world and this hotel was one of the best we have stayed in. We had half board and the evening meal was wonderful, with a good choice for each course and excellently prepared.

The dining room, with its pineapple chandelier, is very smart and the staff are extremely attentive.

The room was clean and we even managed to get access to the free WIFI from the room. Internet access anywhere in Cuba is challenging - to say the least - and actually having free access in the room was a real luxury.

The hotel is a only short walk from the historic centre or, if you want to take the train along the Valley of the Sugar Mills, the station is not far away. We turned up in a hire car and there was secure parking just outside the hotel.

Our tour operator booked us at this hotel during a 9-day Cuba tour. It's an oasis of comfort and luxury in this charming city, which almost makes one feel awkward after seeing so much poverty and deprivation in this country with difficult history. (But of course, I was happy to have this luxury.) Our room overlooking the city square was spacious, spotless clean and very well furnished. The breakfast spread was amazing, and all the meals were good. The staff was all courteous and eager to please.

What we didn't know when we checked in Saturday afternoon was that this was the night of a community disco party on the city square. When we came back to the room feeling mellow after a sip of excellent Cuban rum--Trinidad 11-- at the bar, we saw a big crowd of mostly young people gathering in the square, some watching an intercity baseball game on a big screen. At around 11 p.m., a band began to play, with extremely loud speakers and the base volume turned up to levels that made the whole hotel walls vibrate. I kept hoping it would end by 12.30... 1am....2am... But every song I thought was the finale was followed by another, even louder and crazier. I finally picked up the phone, and screamed at the night manager, who said he had no power to control the noise. After a while, I asked for another room on the other side of the building, which he immediately produced, but the concert finally ended 15 minutes after we moved to the new room. It was past 2.30AM! It was the most egregious of noise pollution I've ever experienced. I don't understand why the city allows this kind of common-sense-defying noise violence ruin the experience of foreign visitors, when the Cuban government is ostensibly trying to promote tourism. I would think that the hotel could at least negotiate with the city to turn the sound down to a reasonable level and end the event at a reasonable hour, like 1am.

Dear Barcrofter.

Has been a great pleasure to receive your nice comments and we thank sincerely, als o on behalf of the users of Trip advisor who surely will find very useful your information.

We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by the street festival. Believe me we have tried everything to local authorities limit the hours and the volume such celebrations, because whenever there is a local event are our guests, and therefore we, who suffer the consequences of being located in the center of a city as "animated" as Trinidad.
We think that a city that receives so many visitors as Trinidad, should be able to harmonize the festive events and rest of the hotel guests, and so I we have transmitted to the ministry deTourism and we are waiting for the response.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our hotel or to any of our Iberostar resorts.

Yours sincerely

Ok so after beeibg in many countries and many five syar hotel i can defiantly say that after two weeks in Cuba 7 nights in the five star hotels ( Havana and Trinidad ) and the rest of the nights in Casa particular, that when in comes to value for price Casa wines big time. But more importantly than value for money, u get much closer to cuben people and getting the Cuben experience. Money was not an the issue for us but I wanted to try a Casa and once I tried ( in Trinidad after the first night in this hotel) there was no turning back :). If I didn't convince u to go for casa than read the below: this hotel is good, better than the lbrostar in Havana, clean rooms, nice building and good location. We took the big room with balcony and paid $220. The Casa particular we took was closer to the center. Privet room on the roof with two big balconies for $20.. Good luck

Dear Tanyix2000:

We are deeply sorry to know that you did not have a perfect stay at Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad, and that we felt short of your expectations.

Your opinion, like that of all customers, deserves our full respect, but we cannot help to point out that among the many compliments we receive from our guests, the rooms outfit and their cleaning come first. This does not mean that a situation as the one you described can not ever occur and we apologize for it.
As for the Staff''s friendliness, we assure you that it comes just natural not only because they are expecting a tip, but you know¨" something's better than nothing".

We really appreciate your comments which highligth the areas that we need to rectify to improve our standards, and to reach for a perfect service.
