As part of our stay at Dr. Suarez and Sra. Addys’ Casa, we walked about and ended up at Plaza Mayor in the early afternoon. Unfortunately we missed the open viewing time for Iglesia Santisima, so we had a seat around conveniently located tables on the steps next to Santisima. We were served promptly, and enjoyed some beers and colas under a beautiful shade tree. As the afternoon wore on, clouds began to build, raindrops ensued, and we ducked into a bar midway up the steps. Well the boys, locals, were engrossed in a soccer game on TV, so my wife and I bought a round for everyone and we all enjoyed the game! Very cool to be hanging with the locals watching a soccer game, drinking beer, and waiting for the afternoon deluge to stop. We came back in the evening, about 7:00 p.m., and the plaza was completely transformed as a very “hot” salsa band was knocking out the beat, and the locals were strutting their Cuban Salsa. Way cool! My wife and I had a blast till the wee hours watching the locals just doin’ their Cuban thing! We wished we could join in with all the fun, but I guess that’s a few Salsa lessons away. The local band was hittin’ it, and the lead singer was on fire! A very cool, fun and cultural night. We stumbled “home” in the late, late hours, but the music continued until well after 1:00 a.m. No one bothered us at all with the predictable, “Want to by a cigar” stuff, just very cool music all night long. Highly recommend hangin’ on the steps after the sun goes down! Time very, very well spent!
