“Amazing Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Aboard the 11.00am ferry I was pretty worried about the sheer amount of people onboard. Most of them were probably heading for the vineyards so I was dreading everything being packed. I had heard about Man O' War being on a beach so when we investigated and found it was the furthest away from everything else, we were sold.

Got out there by way of taxi which costs between $60 and $80, depending on how you bargain. If you have a non drinker, you're better off hiring a car which start at $50. The road out to Man O' War is gravel.

We were right on our guess that it wouldn't be too busy thankfully. There were several groups of people there but it was in no way crowded. The host was very knowledgeable about the wines and the tasting is free. We bought several bottles and headed outside to the grounds. They have a large grassed section right opposite the beach with beautiful views over the beach to the ocean and islands. It was perfect! You can move your picnic table into the sun or under the trees, whatever you like. Some kids were playing cricket but not sure if it was their own set they brought with them. They only do cheese plates and panini's in the way of food but that was fine for us.

A really, really enjoyable day. We ended up staying the whole time there. Will deffo be back.

“Interesting wines and lovely location platters basic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

This winery is beautifully located in a semi tropical on the seashore just above the beach. Sipping the wines on the veranda is idyllic and and relaxing. The wines are interesting with some very good and the staff very knowledgeable and attentive. This is not a full restaurant and truth to tell the platter we shared disappointed. Well worth a visit for the wines and the setting. For food I can recommend the Poderi Crisci for anyone interested in authentic Italian cooking. The Italian style wines are also well worth sampling.

“Waiheke jewel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Travel the gravel roads to the end of the island, take your time, the views are superb. The owner and her dog are very friendly, plenty of time for a chat. The setting, a simple cottage, surrounded by lawn, overlooking the water. Sit out on the veranda, listen to the music & the birds, enjoy the sun, the water, and a good glass or two. Loved the savignon blanc.

“Friendly locals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013 via mobile

We drove the windy and picturesque road to this place to find a low key vineyard with great wines and friendly locals more than happy to tell you about them. Good spot for a glass or two by the sea

“Peaceful area with great Kiwi hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

We came here for a quick lunch after our trip to Stony Batter, the winery overlooks the sea on a very flat piece of land! The wine tasting is for free and we settled on their amazing Sauvignon Blanc to go with our Antipasto Platter (with a few Panini's on the side). Very different from the larger wineries with regards to food choice but the atmosphere was far more relaxed and just like popping into your neighbours home for a food yarn!

Cute dog on the property also!
