Description: WelcomePoderi Crisci Vineyard and Winery, set in a stunning amphitheatre surrounded by vines and olive trees, has fast become the quintessence of what in Italy is called: Agroturismo. Located 30 minutes from Matiatia in Awaawaroa Bay, Poderi Crisci occupies 7.7 hectares of north-facing slopes in the heart of Waiheke’s unique wine growing microclimate. The narrow rocky strip underlying Poderi Crisci is believed to be 30 million years older than the rest of the Island, boasting soil criss-crossed with mineralised veins. For four generations the Crisci family has been immersed in food and wine, Antonio born and raised in Napoli came to NZ in early 1990 and established Toto Restaurant in Nelson Street . With his partner Vivienne Farnell they opened Non Solo Pizza, an institution in Parnell in 1997 and Bar Vino in 2009.

“Authentic and romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

This was a gem of a find on a round the island trip in our car. down a little dirt road off the beaten track but well worth the drive. The most authentic food and service we have experienced in New Zealand - delectable.... Try their Sapa (and take one home).

“The Memorable Meal!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Anyone who has read our reviews will know that our highest compliment is a "memorable meal". As many of the outlying wineries close down for the winter season, we had pre-booked via email with James (Manager) from Oz. The TA reviews from our experience, said it was a must do.

We finalised a dinner degustation menu with wines (no discussion on price) on our Waiheke arrival, Thursday night so we had Friday to sightsee. on our tour we drove past the winery gate, so we doubled back to have a squizzy.

James welcomed us with a personal tour of the vineyards and wine making facilities. We joined 4 others on the sun drenched patio for an enjoyable wine tasting. The vineyard specialises in Italian varietals with many interesting wines not unlike our Golden Grove wines in Queensland.

At six o'clock our Island Taxi Service picked us up and delivered us to the restaurant - these guys are great.

As mentioned earlier, things are quiet in June especially at this end of the island, the restaurant was fully dressed with romantic candles flickering on every table. Our table for two was in front of the fireplace, we had exclusive use of the maitre de, chef and kitchen hand for the next three hours.

We will not do detail because you need to savour all the unexpected delights on your visit. We will say that the cost is HALF what you would pay on the Goldie for the same fare.

Unless you have a non-drinking driver, book an Island Taxi and enjoy the great wines that compliment great food for a Memorable Meal.

“Well worth the drive on Waiheke”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

The drive to this restaurant was interesting in itself. Along a rutted gravel road through bush and farmland, with some quirky sculptures along the way.
The restaurant is situated on its own olive grove and vineyard, and boasts a big vege garden and from our table we looked out over unspoilt wetlands.
The staff were amazing in that they knew everything about each wine and the different dishes.
And the food...wow it really was a taste of Italy right here in NZ.

“A taste of Italy in NZ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

We had considered the long lunch here but decided to take a drive and see rather than pre booking. The restaurant was filled by those taking the long lunch (12.30 -4.30) so we were offered a seat outside and, as the weather had cleared, we decided to stay. For our 'short' long lunch we shared two of the entrée courses. Breads were delicious but the olive oil was too mild for both of us. The second, a platter of frittata was delicious. My glass of wine and my partner's Italian beer were enjoyed as we sat on the lovely wide deck overlooking wetlands and, in the distance, another vineyard. The service was great. We look forward to returning for a much longer lunch next time.
