“good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2010

Apartment well equipped and comfortable, we had 4 great nights celebrating a family occasion with our adult kids. Loved being near the marina thoug I wouldnt say we were on the waterfront as we were opposit the marina bar & cafe wihich is dry land however we could see the yacht masts and sea in distance.
Only negative was the master bedroom had no window, -was ok for us as one of the family had a leg brace so the ensuite was good for them but noone else liked the no window factor.
Enjoyed the spa and sitting on both decks with bbq.

Thank you for your review and great to hear that you had such a lovely time.

I would like to respond to the comment about the "main bedroom". This particular apartment has 3 bedrooms (apartment number 12). The guest reference to the main bedroom with ensuite, is actually the 3rd bedroom (not the master bedroom). This bedroom is usually locked and only opened when requested to have a 3rd bedroom with ensuite. When this is requested we always explain that this is a land-locked room with an internal window.

The apartment is generally sold as a 2 bedroom apartment with a King Bedroom and a twin room. Both these bedrooms are opening up to a private terrace overlooking Waikawa Bay & estuary.
Come and check it out....

We stayed here for four nights and were very pleased with our choice. The apartment is in a marina, with bay views to the rear. The apartment is large and has a full kitchen and laundry facilities. You do need to have a car as it is about 10 minutes drive into Picton town centre. I would recommend these apartments for anyone who wants a clean, spacious base in this area.

We stayed at the "Apartments on the waterfront" at Picton in Oct 09 and loved everything about the place.

Rather than re-write what they are like - just read the review "Lovely place to stay" from Nov 07. Although this review in from 2 years ago, it is still the same.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Picton which is much larger than most houses - then this is the place to stay.

We can't say more than the previous reviews and we have added this place to our must stay again list.

Our family of four from Australia felt very at home here. The view was good but not out toward the sound. Beds were great! The apartment was one of the best that we stayed in in NZ and was good value.

It is a way out of Picton so a car is required to see more than the marina. However we enjoyed some great food at the 'Jolly Roger' across the road.

We shared a 2 bedroom apartment with friends. We had plenty of room and privacy. The bedrooms are on the first level, along with a small bunk room which we did not need. Each bedroom opened onto a patio with water view. Upstairs is a huge lounge, dining room and kitchen. 2 balconies on this level also with water views. All the condos are privately owned. Ours was tastefully furnished and had an amazing Boze sound system. Too cold to use the pool, but it looked nice. A two minute walk to a local bar that had wonderful food......try the grilled butter fish if it is seaonal. Could only spend one night.....this would have made a wonderful destination resort if we had more time. The price was great too.

It was worth staying a few minutes out of Picton to enjoy the experience of staying by the marina. We had the end apartment (8 or 18?) which had the best views across the water and mountains. It was bigger than our flat in London with many balconies, 3 bedrooms and upstairs area. It felt like you were renting a whole spacious house for a few days. With a laundry and well equiped, clean kitchen, this place was great for staying put for several days and just relaxing. We will definitely be returning for some more R&R.

We stayed here for 4 nights during our tour of the south island. You do need a car to get the benefit from the area as you are about a 10 min drive from Picton. The yatch club opposite provides meals and seemed to be open from early morning to late in the evening.

The apartments are huge. On the ground floor you walk into a long hallway off of which are, a small laundry behind folding doors (washing machine, tumble drier, iron & ironing board) , three bedrooms, 1 double, 1 twin and 1 bunk room and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Upstairs is one large room with a kitchen area which is well equiped with crockery & cutlery and has a dishwasher and waste deposal unit, divided from the dinning area by a counter which can be used as additional table space, large dinning table and chairs and a very comfortable seating area complete with large tv and satilite tv and small coffee table.

There are 3 private terraces, 1 leading out from the bedrooms onto a grassy area overlooking a small stream. The 2nd is off the dinning area and again over looks the stream at the back of the property and the 3rd is off the sitting area which over looks the marina. There were table and chairs on both the upstairs terraces and a small wooden bench downstairs. Both terraces were covered making them idea for use in bad weather. There was not a BBQ for our apartment as stated in the description.

The kitchen area was not particularly clean, the floor was sticky and several cups, plates and cutlery had been put away dirty, however the rest of the property was spotless. The apartments are not serviced everyday so if you are staying for any length of time you need to be aware of this.

There was a small unheated swimming pool and spa pool in a fenced off landscaped area off the carpark which has loungers and tables around. Both pools were covered most of the time, but nobody seemed to mind us taking the covers off and using the pool, we just put the covers back on after, however for the last day and 1/2 we were there they appeared to have a machine in the pool cleaning it so we couldn't use if.

We found that there was a lack of information provided about extra's that had been advertised in the description such as being able to order breakfast, wireless access etc, and a general lack of information about facilities within the apartment and onsite for example how to access channels for the satalite TV, when the swimming pool could be used, how to despose of rubbish etc so we had to keep going back to reception for information as and when we needed it. All this does not detract from it being a lovely place to stay and we would go back again.

  • Liked — The space
  • Disliked — lack of information and the kitchen not being clean
