Stayed a night whilst traveling around the south island over on a holiday from Australia. Room was new and comfortable. Helpful reception and great seafood from the restaurant. Good to see a place that puts room presentation ahead of outside appearance. Definitely would stay again!!!

Over the years, we've stayed at two other places in Picton - the highly-rated Harbour View Motel and Jasmine Court. But the Beachcomber Inn beats the lot, and this was our third visit, staying five nights. Okay, it's an unfortunate building, but the only place from which you can't see the ugly architecture is inside! The rooms in the three storeys have external corridors, and then you enter a small kitchen-lobby and then the bedroom, so you are shielded from the noise of the traffic (and it's a surprisingly busy road). All rooms have wonderful views of the garden, the harbour, the sound and the forested hills, plus a balcony, and you can watch the ferries from Wellington arriving and leaving. The rooms have recently been refurbished with a very individual touch - so unlike bland chain motels - with dark colours which blend perfectly. There is a restaurant on the top floor with the same great view, in my view the best place to eat in Picton, especially if you dislike loud music and the noise of young people having fun. The cooking is of a high standard and the service friendly and helpful if (depending who's on duty) a little lacking in polish and self-confidence. There is often a coach party in residence, but this didn't affect is unless we were in the restaurant when they were; in such cases, people-watching provides so much fun that I'd gladly pay a supplement to dine when the coach tourists do.

The motel/hotel is managed with care and energy. There's limited parking (although plenty when there's a coach party in residence), but there's no problem parking on the road outside.

Just been looking at other peoples reviews & wondered if the same place! It is! Maybe reception ?'supervisor'? Having a bad day. Hospitality not her thing on our visit, very efficient though. Rooms clean & nicely furnished ( modern & comfortable) AND very poorly designed. We were 2 couples, couldn't fit our cases (medium size) nor cabin luggage (1bag ea) all, in either the king room or the twin bed room. Almost impossible to walk past beds in twin room. Not possible to shut outside light out, curtains lovely & thick, but short w high windows, light streams beneath. All living area lights paired which meant wherever someone sat on lovely lounges to watch tv, light straight in front of your view. Bathroom lovely. Balcony privately fenced & tiny, saw into others rooms, sideways, but the man next door & I startled each other in morning! View to harbour good. Restaurant excellent, with good service & views.

Room Tip: Do not share, regardless of number of bedrooms, bring eye mask for sleeping.

Stayed at this hotel as a part of a large party. We found the hotel pleasant with lovely views from the rooms balcony. The facilities were good and the friendly family service excellent. Dinner was a buffet style and was of a good standard. Similarly breakfast was

Words fail us to express our immense pleasure on all levels of service at the Beachcomber Inn, Picton, New Zealand.
The breakfast's are so generous, fresh and faultless..
The Staff are so pleased to go the extra mile..
The "quality" of room presentation is up there on a global scale of excellence!

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best) we rate Beachcomber Inn a 11.99 (and that's just the Staff!)..

AWESOME goes somewhere near the right word

Regards
John & Frances

spent two days here and could not be more happy, my room overlooked the harbor with a balcony all to myself. the food in the restaurant was excellent followed up by great customer service. The rooms were absolutely spotless well stocked with tea, coffee and milk. If you want a place to just chill with a good bottle of wine then this is it.
