“BEST PLACE IN PICTON”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Our second stay here. We've also stayed in Picton at the Harbour View, Jasmine Court and the truly awful Mercure, but this is the best of the lot.

I was a bit worried that the ground floor room would not have a good view, but I need not have been concerned. We drew back to curtains to look over the lawn at the blue harbour and sky. Rooms are very comfortable and stykish, though the dcor is a bit surprising. It's the sort of masculine decor with dark colours and heavy curtains you often get in business hotels, buf 95% of guests must be on holiday. Bathroom was a bit small, but there was a nice patio.

The top floor restaurant is excellent with wonderful views and I haven't found anywhere better to eat in Picton.

The hotel is much used by coach tours. This isn't a problem for other guests, though if you want to dine, check with the receptionist which time to avoid. But it does mean that the hotel is often full, so you may need to book far in advance, especially if it's for more than the odd night.

Room Tip: All rooms have lovely views of sea and mountains

Had only one night here but as the saying goes "all good". Check in was friendly and efficient with all relevant details relating to our stay perfectly explained.
Location was good in a reasonably quiet part of town, a little bit of road noise but you get that most places (we are from a very quiet place) also close to everything really including a good fish & chip shop and lively Irish Bar plus liquor outlet nearby however Picton town is relatively small and a easy stroll to anywhere you wish to eat, drink or shop.

We looked all over Picton before we found this gem, the rooms differ a lot as some have been re vamped and others not so, my wife looked at two different rooms and chose one that she liked then when we were together they said that there was a room near the reception on the ground floor that goes out to a grassy area with out door tables and chairs, it was nice sitting out side over looking the harbour and we went for a lovely walk from there checking the whole place out. Its only a short stroll to some great restaurants like Le Cafe and many others.
The room was very spacious and kept clean, the bathroom was a bit dated but we only showered in there not slept! The staff were very friendly and helpful and we would certainly stay here again when in Picton, which by the way is one of my favourite places in the world!

Room Tip: It was very nice on the ground floor with the out doors area, also when in Picton I highly recommend...

We stayed for one night awaiting an early morning sailing on the ferry. We were in a studio unit on the second floor towards the marina end of the building. The front desk person was friendly, very helpful and prepared to show rooms. The rooms were clean, well maintained and would have been highly regarded when it was built. There was no hand basin in the toilet/shower - not very hygenic when the basin is used also to wash dishes etc. The major downside was that noise from adjoining rooms is very audible. We had someone reading german aloud at 10.30pm on one side and someone with an intermitent cough on the other. We would only use as a default next time.

Room Tip: If occupancy is low ask for vacant rooms each side.

We stayed at the Beachcomber Inn on the last day of our Holiday, it was a last minute booking, and they were very helpful. The room was large we had a great view. It was very clean we were on the ground floor as only regular rooms available, but we had a nice big patio, with the swimming pool and the garden with all the furniture right there so that was nice.
The only bug was that you couldnt make breakfast no facilities in the room, they did do breakfast in the restaurant sometimes when larger groups stayed, but that wasnt a problem as there was plenty of cafes to get an early breakfast.
Talking of the restaurant, we had dinner there, The Chef at that restaurant must taste everything he cooks the flavours were just bouncing in my mouth The Scallops were fantastic we both loved the dish, and the prawn cocktail with lyches and mandarins made for a whole different flavour, well done chef dont lose him. And the views from the retaurant looked out over the sounds all in all we had a great night. Thank you Garry and Lorna New Plymouth

Room Tip: We didnt see the other rooms, but it looks like if you paid a bit more you were higher up and with...

Nice hotel with a great view over the Sounds. The room was nice and clean, but there was a big minus: the shower. The water pressure was so low that a decent shower was almost impossible. And that was just what we needed after a long day of walking and kayaking. Shame as that ruined the otherwise good impression we had of this hotel.

Do try the restaurant, surprisingly good quality food!

We stayed for 2 nights and the room was great. The view from the courtyard was out to the marina and it is walking distance to town. The room had all the requirements that we were wanting but parking is limited. The room had sliding doors to the courtyard as we were on the 1st level but it is right next to the water. Great budget hotel and would return when staying in picton.

Room Tip: Room did not have spa but unsure if they have spa rooms for people looking for that option.
