“A gem of a museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

This was a great New Zealand history lesson. You can go aboard the remains of this old ship which has been preserved by a group of very enthusiastic local people. The ship was used for among a lot of other things, the transport of British convicts to Australia The documentation of their crimes and the re-creation of the living conditions on board are very interesting. This is a fairly small museum but is very much worth a visit.

“Terrific look back in maritime history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

I've been to a few attractions of late and this one really caught my attention. The video and museum were ok, but being able to walk around the Edwin Fox was incredible. To be able to walk around and imagine what it was like for the convicts and paying passengers was for me a highlight.

Thanks to the many volunteers who make this possible. Well done!!!

“Interesting History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

The remains of the ship Edwin Fox are lovingly maintained (not restored) and displayed in dry-dock alongside the museum. To go inside the hull of the ship, which is said to be the 9th oldest ship remaining in the world, is a fascinating experience. However, the real treat for us was the 40 minute video on the ship's multiple-life history shown in the museum.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Was brilliant - slice of NZ history, reasonably priced and well worth it. Well presented as well - exhibits, documentary and then able to try out the displays - actually see and experience the bunks

Glad you had a chance to try out the bunks, over the last few months we have become more interactive for visitors and encourage visitors to try out the bunks, sit at the table, try out the convict cells for size and even sit on our replica toilet?! 3 months sailing on board the Edwin Fox would of truly been hard in the 1800's.

Well recommend this attraction. It is like stepping back in time. We went on an open day where they re-enacted living back in the day. Good value.

Thank you, we are having another day where our actors will be back in dress....Picton Maritime Festival 18th January, it does bring things to life a little and proves a popular photo opportunity.
