“Foodie heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Margaret is a New Zealander who did her chef training in London. What a cook!!! No cans are allowed in Kippilaw House; all the chutneys, sauces, jams and cakes are all home made. Breakfasts started w fruit parfait (her garden fruit), interesting omelettes and sausages ... all freshly made to your order. Good coffee and proper tea served in silver teapot.

Bedroom, ensuite and snack area all spotless and comfortable, w fresh flowers in room. We had our own garden spot opening from french doors.

Great advice on excursions, and when she heard we were doing a day tour and hike, she arranged the booking, provided us a mighty packed lunch of freshly made lunch (for which she didn't charge us). Told us the best spots to go for a sundowner drink.

On Good Friday we dined in, and she gave us a choice of entrees and main. HUUUUGE servings, everything cooked perfectly, and a nice NZ bottle of wine.

A very kind person, she made us feel comfortable having a bottle of our wine in front of TV in the guest lounge, her pooches were a great substitute for my dogs. I think she helps a lot of the local people who are going through hard times, by letting them sublease part of her wildly successful farmers market stall on the weekends in Picton and Blenheim. Her husband Bill is equally kind and thoughtful and it's places like Kippilaw House that make NZ tourism so good.

Room Tip: Downstairs has the little garden area.

Thank you for choosing Kippilaw House for your rest and recreation, yes you did exceedingly well on the 10 kg walk well done.

Having been in hospitality all our lives and trained in the cooking/catering aspects of it I love feeding and looking after guests who appreciate good food that is fresh and locally sourced.

We hope you are rested and settled back in your own home. I was thinking your olive harvest must be just about taking place I expect it will be a bumper crop and wish you well with the preserving of the olives for another season.

The warmth and hospitality shown by Margaret and Bill on the two occasions we stayed with them was outstanding. Their facility is clean, neat, tidy and very comfortable. Margaret is an outstanding chef and all of her food was a delight, whether dinner, her special breakfasts or a packed breakfast to take on the early ferry. Her food was the best we had in NZ and her chocolate brownie is to die for! Margaret or Bill were very helpful in attending to any of our needs and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were very well looked after and could not recommend this venue more highly.

It was our pleasure having you back stay with us again after Buzz got sick last December.

You sounded like you had a great time on the Queen Charlotte Track which is a sheer delight to be part of . The brownie just adds to the peace and quietness when reflecting while resting on the track and can assist you over the next part..

We hope your bumps and scrapes have all healed well after your bike topple Buzz. Kind wish to you both it was our pleasure having you stay, dine and chat with us..

We booked this b&b from australia. Our hosts both greeted us warmly upon arrival and treated us like royalty. The rooms are of outstanding quality and beautifully decorated. You also get your own sitting room. Fridge in each room & the rooms & ensuites are very spacious.
The food - OMG - was so good and there was so much of it. Definitely no skimping on food here so if you like an enormous sumptuous breakfast you will love this place.
Our hosts offered pick ups &drop offs and generally were happy to help in any way they could to make our stay as good as possible.
Kippilaw House is also an easy 10min walk to the main shopping &restaurant district via the beautiful marina.
Highly recommended & I would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to picton.

Room Tip: Just two rooms available, both with ensuites. One room is upstairs with its own separate sitting roo...

We stayed with Margaret and Bill for 4 days in March and had the most fantastic stay. Kippilaw House is beautiful, so clean and inviting and the hosts warm and friendly. The location was fantastic in Picton and it was a great start and finish to our walk in the Queen Charlotte Track. Bill and Margaret did so much to help make us feel at home with a huge and delicious breakfast every morning and local knowledge and advice. They did everything they could to make our stay in Picton fantastic The rooms are very large, comfortable and spotless. I can only say wonderful things about our stay, and highly recommend to other Picton visitors.

Room Tip: Either room is great, the suite upstairs is more roomy but the downstairs room is very comfortable a...

Staying at the Kippilaw House before leaving the South Island with the ferry made our South Island tour especially nice! Margrete and Bill gave us a very warm welcome, advised us perfectly where to go for a walk and swim (Bob's Bay).
We enjoyed the afternoon tea served to our room and also the perfect spectacular looking and delicious tasting dinner. Breakfast the next morning was more than we could managed.
The rooms are very clean and nice!

No problem we love assisting our guests with information that makes their stay in Marlborough a great sucess. The swimming in the sea is just another relaxing thing to do around Picton. I hope the rest of your stay in New Zealand was memorable and that you are home safe and sound saving for your next holiday somehwere. Kind wish.

Such a lovely place. Margaret & Bill were perfect hosts and couldn't do enough for us. The room was beautiful - they prepared a sensational dinner for us and served it in the area off our bedroom which had a fantastic view of Picton. This was followed up by a hearty breakfast the next morning.
The room was very spacious with a very large bathroom adjoining it. There was also a sitting room, which we didn't even get the chance to choose.
Kippilaw House was so good our only complaint was we didn't want to leave and maybe missed out on some of Picton as we were so relaxed in our room.
Thank you again, Margaret & Bill.

Our thanks to Margaret and Bill for a wonderful two night stay in Picton. Our room was very clean and well equipped with all the little extras. Each morning we were greated with a hearty breakfast full of surprises prepared by Margaret. They were always willing to make suggestions on where to eat for dinner and what activities were available. As we left to head south we were even supplied with provisions to accompany crayfish we intended to buy in Kaikoura. Kippilaw House was a great place to start our two week holiday in the south island of NZ.
