“Lovely setting & service, average for price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We were staying one night in Picton and decided to eat at Spinnaker after it was recommended by our accommodation provider. We certainly received great service, and the location, looking over the marina is just great. We ordered fresh gurnard, which was definitely fresh. We were, however, a little disappointed with the accompanying veges-basic potato cubes, coleslaw, peas & beans didn't seem to us worth $28 for the main meal.

“Wonderful Service, great food :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

What a great way to end our South Island tour. We arrived in Picton with a group of 20 to find no where was open. They opened up for us and made us feel unbelievably welcome. The food was excellent and service fantastic.

“Unwelcoming with minimal atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Earlier this month,we booked for 7.30 and arrived on time. After waiting a couple of minutes, a middle aged blonde woman wearing glasses, ( I give this description for the owners benefit) came over and just stood there. I mentioned that we had a booking, she picked up menus and walked off to a reserved table. We followed and while we were standing by the table waiting to be seated, she spoke her only words to us which was to tell us " the fish of the day" and then walked off. 15 minutes later she exited the restaurant with a bottle of wine under her arm. A very pleasant young woman took over and gave us very good service. The food was ok but at the prices charged we felt it was overpriced. Wine was reasonably priced. I see from previous reviews that others have also had issues with waiting staff. My wife's dessert looked suspiciously like an Aunt Betty's Sticky Date pudding, although garnished very nicely.

“The Spinnaker - what a find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

We came across the Spinnaker restaurant by chance. It is a little out of the town...but it is well worth the effort. In fact, in our case the effort was minimal because the owner/chef's mother came and picked us up from the motel and took us back again later. The food is delicious, professionally cooked and presented and the wine is reasonably priced (I'd recommend the Ned). We had Teriki, a local fish, and a ravioli with prawns, both cooked to perfection. It's not perfect; the decor is tired and the head waiter could have made a little more effort to welcome coustomers. But the view and the quality of the food more than compensated. Well worth a visit in a town not overly endowed with quality restaurants.

“Never on Sunday”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We pre booked dinner for Sunday. On arrival we found that there was a Sunday special available (roast beef) However when no menu was offered we found that the chef was on a day off and no a la cart menu available. We were offered a pan fried fish dish as an alternative to the roast. A very disappointing experience
