“Relaxing, restorative and fabulous breakfasts!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2010

What a gem! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Olive Grove and the company of our hosts Annette and Chris. This beautiful B&B is a little off the main road, so enjoys peace, quiet and fresh air.

Our room had a balcony and a super view over Robinson's Bay. Breakfast is a joy - menus change daily and the food and coffee are excellent. Guests have use of their own lounge.

The Olive Grove is where we would stay if we are every lucky enough to visit Akaroa again.

Beautiful, charming B&B with stunning views and great hospitality. One of our three favourite accomodations during our three week trip through New Zealand (the others were Loch Vista, Te Anau, and Hillsfield House, Renwick). There is nothing to add to the previous reviews (other than: Have diner at "La petite Bistro" or "Ma Maison" in Akaroa - two wonderful restaurants with great food. And don't forget to swim with the dolphins!).

By that I mean astounding scenery and views ( which if you are from the UK may remind you of the Cornish countryside and Akaroa reminds me of St Ives), good food, delightful hosts and company and a homely and relaxed room to stay in.

On arrival we were shown to our room which was love-ly and the views were to die for- unbroken by any other building looking out across to Robinsons Bay. We were then brought some tea and Christmas cake and enjoyed this on our balcony. There is also a guest lounge with books and refreshments you can use to relax in.

We were then invited to join the hosts and the other guests for wine and of course fresh olives from the olive farm, oils made fresh on site and bread before heading into Akaroa for dinner. We ate at the Ma Maison restaurant on the harbour front and the food was lovely as we ate watching the sun go down. We would certainly recommend you dine here while staying in town.

The Olive Grove was our penultimate stay in our honeymoon trip across NZ and what a high to finish on. This area is fantastic. We were booked in the next morning on a Blackcat cruise to go swimming with dolphins and we would DEFINITELY recommend you do this while you are here. Not only is Blackcat an excellent company but the experience is only something you do once in a lifetime. The dolphins were playful and it was incredible.

Chris and Annette were lovely and very accomodating when we asked if we could have breakfast extra early to get down for our dolphin cruise. And breakfast... well... I had eggs benedict and it was gorgeous.

A fab stay and if we are lucky enough to come back to NZ we would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in the Nabali room for one night during our short trip around the South Island. The room was gorgeous, comfortable and extremely clean.

The entire property and surroundings are so beautiful that moving there permanently is likely to cross your mind. The Olive Grove is easy to get to (even without a map!) and is only a short drive to the main part of Akaroa.

Chris and Annette are wonderful hosts. They are friendly, kind, humorous and generous. Upon arrival, we were offered wine, olives and olive oil. The olives were tasty and the olive oil was so good that we ended up taking a bottle of it with us. Chris and Annette also cooked breakfast for us the following morning and the food was so fresh and tasty!

A big thank you to Chris and Annette for making our stay fun, pleasant and enjoyable.

If you are thinking about visiting Akaroa, The Olive Grove is the place to stay!

The Olive Grove is stunning. We stayed for two nights in the Verdale room and had just an incredible stay. The view is spectacular, the setting peaceful and bucolic, and the home stately and full of character. Chris and Annette are the consummate hosts, and their complimentary olive oil tasting and wine hour was a highlight of our stay. Annette's breakfasts are simply the best - changing daily and full of flavor and homemade goodness. My husband is still dreaming about the waffles. If you're going to Akaroa, you must stay! It's 5-minute drive from town, which is nice if it's a busy time of year!

Stayed 2 nights at the Olive Grove.
Room was very comfortable, with balcony giving lovely views to the Banks Peninsula.
We were lucky with the weather which meant we were able to enjoy the 6pm Olive Tasting on the terrace - all very convivial.
Breakfast was probably the best of our entire trip, in particular the home-made yoghurts.
The Olive Grove is a 5-10 minute drive from Akaroa and its restaurants. We drove ourselves the first night but Chris offered a 'taxi service' on the second. A very nice touch.
Overall, an enjoyable stay in lovely surroundings.
