“What should you expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

Well the single room with about five original artefacts could have been a little more ambitious. Sure ChCh wouldn't mind loaning some more stuff. The video is worth the entry fee, particularly if you are new to NZ or a tourist, give a very comprehensive history.
Don't walk by, take a look, don't expect a London museum and you will enjoy it. Unlike the wanky American (off a cruise ship) observed "is that it!" It is worth it and a good effort from the town to present some of its history. If you want the fuller history take the walk, that is brilliant and given it is a distant you can be confident you won't bump into any fat loud Americans. Bliss

“Good museum, but small”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

The museum is quite small, and I was expecting more artifacts and items to look at. But the information is very interesting and paints a good picture of the history of the area. The video was good and, as other visitors have commented, is not to be missed; most of the information you'll learn is packed in the 20 minutes run time. A little pricey for what it is, but I was happy to support the historic community.

“French history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

If you are interested in history don't miss the video at this museum.
The only French building left in town is currently closed due to eathquake repairs needed - but you can peek in the windows. Other than a room of Maori history of the area and the video, there's not much else, but it's not expensive to enter.

“Don't skip the video”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

A small but interesting museum that is slowly recovering after the earthquake damage. Best bit is the short but interesting video on the history of the Akaroa area. Don't skip it!!
