This was one of five stops for us in NZ, and was my wife's absolute favorite. From the comfortable suite, to the wonderful breakfast, right through the wine and light appetizers in the evening, Maison de la Mer is a joy.
We stayed in the Boat House- a detached suite from the main house with a spectacular, over sized round window looking out onto the bay below. A pair of binoculars rests on the sill to use to watch the boats, or spot dolphins, while we sat at the table sampling the various teas and coffees provided. Breakfast is a three course feast, and Carol prepares a wonderful main course from the menu provided the prior evening. Guests are encouraged to relax, linger and enjoy conversation. Bruce and Carol will set up activities, recommend places to dine, and call for reservations. Know that they will make every attempt to get you a wonderful table at the time you choose!
Wines and home made appetizers are at 6 daily, and weather permitting are on the veranda looking out to the water. If too cold, late in the season, they are in the library, a comfortable space designed again for comfort, relaxing and socializing.
Every detail is thought of, every comfort provided. We have travelled extensively, and would rank this B&B as one of the best we have stayed with. We will be seeing Bruce and Carol again!
