“Lovely setting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

We recently had brunch here and the gardens are lovely. The staff said it was the last day of trading so they weren't able to provide some things. We weren't sure whether this meant the place had been sold or was closing for good. The food wasn't stunning but was ok, as was the coffee and the service was just fairly typical. If the place is still open then be aware it is very likely under new management!

“Good, Unpretentious Food Served in a Delightful Garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

We shared the delicious chowder, and the BIG John Wayne burger (beef patty, minute steak, bacon, egg, cheese, beetroot, tomato), served with salad and fries - a good choice we felt. The English cottage garden is delightful, with plenty of shade. So nice to see the sparrows darting to and fro. We´d definitely like to come back one fine day.

“Sweet sounds and tasty desserts in a luscious garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

This small cafe at the back of a large garden with outdoor benches and tables offered reasonable prices and an incomparable atmosphere. Order and pay at the cafe; they bring your order to the table. The service was efficient and friendly. On a hot Sunday afternoon they had a folk singer guitarist performing on the porch and the sweet sounds filtered across the garden into the street. So very very nice and relaxing - exactly why you go to Akaroa.

“Food average, service appalling”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Had lunch here today. The service was terrible - it took 3 trys to get our order correct as the lady operating the till kept coming up with a price of over $50 when we should've been charged $30 only. Food was average - frittata was lukewarm, toasted sandwiches were small and tasted full of butter.
Won't come here again and wouldn't recommend to anyone.

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Looks appealing and garden is nice but the food and service is awful. We ordered the cokked breakfast, food was tasteles, eggs microwaved to 1000 degress, mushy toast. Service was slow and without a smile, complaining did no use they we just uninterested.
These sort of places trade on people who go there the once, ship out and then never come back.
The faded menu out the front is a sign that dont go there. Go out further up the street past little beach and find a little place there.
