“Idyllic for a reunion or friends/family get together”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2010

We stayed at Akaroa House in November 2009. This was a fiftieth birthday celebration for two of the 6 of us. We had intended to sample local restaurants but the kitchen was so beautiful we cooked our meals instead and spent most of our time at the house drinking wine, talking, reading and generally relaxing. The rooms were amazing - lots of period charm but with modern bathrooms and amazing views. the grounds are beautiful. Akaroa is a great place to visit - we did venture out on one boat trip which was good but we froze!! But the highlight of our trip was the fabulous house which was kust what we needed for a happy reunion and birthday.

We have set the standard now, and we find it hard to go anything less for our Annual girls trips... of 11 girls on tour... where we have a 3 day weekend every year locally. And Akaroa was certainly one we won't forget nor wish to. Akaroa house, was warm, and relaxing, we felt very special. And it had great open plan for us all laughing round the table together having a few wines and cooking our French style dinner in the beautiful kitchen. We will be back next time it is Akaroa's turn again! Recommend it to anyone :)
Cheers, Phillippa Jacobs.

We felt priviledged to stay at Akaroa House. It suited our needs perfectly (three girlfriends catching up for the weekend). The house was spotless, the beds very comfy, and the views were magnificent. It was also great that we all had our own bathroom. The location was great, and we could also walk everywhere. If I return to Akaroa, I will definately stay there again.

This is a gorgeous property overlooking the harbour in Akaroa. The house has been beautifully restored and renovated and is furnished with great taste. However it still retains that very homely, welcoming feeling. Everything is so well done from the fully equipped huge kitchen, a gift basket on arrival, beautiful beds and linen and big generous bathrooms. I loved the old verandahs which run around three sides of the house and outdoor living spaces are great. We drove into the village of Akaroa but it is easily walkable. One of the most fantastic properties I have stayed in.

I stayed at Akaroa House with my boyfriend and his mother, who was over from England. It's a beautiful house, lovingly restored with comfortable rooms (we had a great en suite shower / bathroom), and a nice big kitchen diner. We rattled around in it - it would be perfect for a group of friends or a nice family get together (I can imagine great meals around the big dining table or a barbeque in the garden) - but it cost us similar to a decent hotel for three people, and was so much more pleasant (spacious and private). The garden is beautiful with an awesome tree in it (I can't recall if it's a monkey puzzle or a norfolk island pine, but its lovely!), and the sea views are a bonus. It's only a short walk into Akaroa. The owners are friendly and helpful too (the wine in the fridge was a lovely touch :-) I'd highly recommend this place for a relaxing break. We will get back there some time soon all being well.

We recently stayed at Akaroa House for a special occassion weekend, and couldn't have asked for any better. There were 9 of us, so was great to find such an amazing five bedroom house.

The house is just divine. It's a beautiful old villa that has been lovingly restored. It has the perfect combination of elegance and grandeur, while retaining a very comfortable feel that makes you feel like home. The lawns and gardens were beautifully manicured and we enjoyed many hours just sitting on the lawn, deck and veranda soaking up the atmosphere and looking down on the beautiful Akaroa Harbour.

The owner is a pleasure to deal with beforehand and even left some special touches in the house for our arrival.

Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

If you are looking for a self contained place that feels like luxury, this is the place.
