“Eclectic, interesting accomodation with lots of really interesting art around the houses.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed Fothergills. we stayed in the English room and although the bathroom was on the landing and not en suite - it didn't matter as there were no other guests staying on our floor so we had the run of the first floor to ourselves. Bed was comfortable - 4 poster, but no drapes. Lots of local books available to read and all home comforts. Breakfast was good, Susie the manager was efficient and business like and has the place running like clock work. No one would dare be late for breakfast :) Would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in somewhere clean, comfy and interesting. Much better than a soulless hotel.

Room Tip: Excellent trip. Loved Freo. Would recommend the English room.

Thank you for your kind words.
When we first put the 4-poster in the English Room we thought that the antique Flemish tapestry would set the mood appropriately. However your remarks about drapes have led us to look again and we have commissioned a local seamstress to make a set of Elizabethan-style bed curtains. Thanks for the suggestion!

Stunning, elegant and unique heritage guest house with every detail thoughtfully considered. Incredible accommodation with highest quality linen and furnishings including stunning antique furniture. Huge collection of contemporary art, both inside and out. Stunning courtyard which made us feel we were in another world. Owner and staff extremely hospitable. We have now stayed 5 times in 18 months and would HIGHLY recommend to everyone. A unique and magical place.

Five times in 18 months.. Only a few more times and we might mistake you for members of staff!
We have asked an archivist/curator to look at being able to provide a better description and account of the works on display which may make exploring the art work even more interesting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions with us.

We slept in a 4 poster bed in the English room, underneath a stunningly beautiful tapestry. felt like we were in a palace! beautiful artwork and antique furniture, peaceful garden with inviting courtyards and 5 decorated cows amongst the statuary. Sumptuous breakfast and afternoon tea. Suzie, the manager, was most helpful and friendly. Five minute walk to shops & restaurants in the town centre great views of harbour. Highly recommended.

My wife and I were greeted by Sue the manager who showed us around and made us feel welcome. Fothergills is truly a nice place to stay, it's location is walking distance from central Fremantle but there is a free bus ( the blue cat and the red cat ) which is worth jumping on for a tour around the area.
Fothergills is like a house of discovery, there is always something to find and enjoy. The breakfast is AMAZING...Sue also cooks a hot breakfast for you plus there are cereals, yoghurts and fresh fruit.. toast.. the works..
We stayed in the O'Connor room, it was big but the shower/ toilet is small but still it does the job.
Things to do - The Fremantle prison is worth a tour, we did the "Doing Time" tour and is an eye opener.
For dinner, try Sandrino's Wood Fired Pizza in the cafe strip. Amazing. also try Little creatures for a great beer and interesting surroundings by the sea.
Fothergills is highly recommended, it's homely, safe and interesting.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front have road noise.

We spent 3 days in an upstairs room which was roomy and beutifully decoated with varied artworks and curios. Loved the cows in the yard. The whole B&B is a veritable art gallery, the courtyards invting and the breakfasts sumptuous and friendly. A short walk to Freemantle but just far away to be peacefull.

Room Tip: All rooms are delightful.

My husband and I stayed in the very beautiful O'Connor room in Aug 2013. Love the decoration and history of the place. There's a lot of artwork displayed.. it gives the place a very different character as compared to other B&B. We totally enjoyed staying our night here. Breakfast was simple yet delicious. The location is near to Freemantle prison. Highly recommend this place to all travellers!
