Description: The Mussel Bar Seafood Restaurant sits right on the water at Fremantle's famous Fishing Boat Harbour. Smell the fresh sea air and take in the spectacular views over a pre-dinner drink as you anticipate the enjoyment of one this historic port city's finest restaurants. Obviously, the kitchen's specialisation is mussels but we also offer a broad range of seafood dishes as well as non-seafood proteins and salads.

Yes a great venue - ambience and staff first rate. But ...... $225 for a Seafood Platter for 3.....really!!! and one of our party suffered a bout of food poisoning next day - either mussels or oysters

“good lunch at weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Went to Fremantle for an enjoyable Saturday. Waited Mussel Bar to open until 12, that's too hot to take a outdoor seat. Sat inside, by the water, the scene of the port is really good! And, food is delicious! Can wholly enjoy myself!
Seafood(mainly mussels), risotto, and a glass of cocktail made the lunch pretty great!

“Average experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

My husband and I took my elderly mother to the Mussel Bar for lunch and found it to be a very average experience. When I booked I was not told the air con was not working and it was a 40 degree day!! They did have fans but it was so hot our wine became very warm and the glasses of ice we asked for melted very quickly.
We shared oysters for starters which was also warm.
The seafood platter was nothing to rave about especially when it cost $150 and the Salmon was very overcooked, We were told that barramundi was the fish on the platter not salmon ? We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for this platter after our oysters.
The Mussel Bar is in a lovely setting overlooking Fishing boat harbour but the food does not match this setting.
I would not go back.

“Best in Fremantle harbour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Sitting by the water, watching the to-ing and fro-ing of yachts and plastic-fantastics, (some highly professional, some embarrassed amateurs), guessing ( correctly) that our waitress came from Cork, and eating delicous sea-food with a crisp dry reisling - what is not to like ?

“Good food, good wine, good views.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Three Japanese colleagues and I were looking for somewhere to eat on a busy Saturday night after Christmas, and away from the usual pizza laden restaurants of South Terrace. The boat harbour area of Fremantle offers a number of good restaurants including the Mussel Bar, which very kindly was able to fit us in without a reservation. As the name implies, the Mussel Bar is primarily a seafood restaurant. The wine list is reasonably diverse with quite a few wines available by the glass. We started with some excellent oysters natural before sharing two entree sized bowls of mussels with green Thai curry, and Portuguese (cream, onion, garlic, saffron Cinzano, herbs) sauces. The mussels were excellent, although quite a few were not open, and could not be opened. We could have had more bread for the sauces. For mains we chose and shared “Forest Mushroom Risotto” and “Light Tempura Shark Bay Whiting”. The risotto was perfect. The grains separated nicely, and the sauce was rich with flavour. The whiting was also beautifully cooked, BUT, this is my usual gripe in Australia, it was not tempura. It was at best a light batter, but not as light as true tempura. My colleagues agreed. Tempura whiting (kisu) is a common dish in Japan. Tempura should be almost cellophane thin, translucent and crispy (pari-pari). Had it been advertised as light batter, then we would have still ordered the whiting, but when tempura is advertised, then tempura is expected. Otherwise, it was a very good night out. The service was excellent and unobtrusive – staff where there when you needed them – and the prices reasonable.
