I discovered this Italian restaurant in a street of classic heritage buildings. I was looking for something tasty and relatively light in a quiet spot. I was alone, enjoying a cycling round trip from Perth, planning a Freemantle day.
I was led to a table beneath some appealing art work. This one was decidedly Italian. Glancing around, other art work pleasantly depicted Australia. I sipped a good white wine with a name recalling the valley of giant forest south of Margaret River. I ordered a veal snitchel with fries and salad. It was excellent in size, not too heavy. The fries were as one might expect - okay to good. But the cold salad was one to die for. The snitchel was also above average. Staff were efficient and friendly. I sipped another glass of wine, reminiscing about a mega bicycle journey through those spectacular Western Australian forests. At the next table a group was celebrating, possibly some family anniversary. They were continually full of smiles. I finished with a long black and departed somewhat reluctantly but entirely satisfied. Freemantle is a good step from my New Zealand home. Hopefully I will return to Villa Roma.
