“Conitiki Hell”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2009

We were going to take a tent and camp here but due to rain forecast and cost of adding a tent as luggage on Ryanair we chose the hostel option, big mistake.

First I'll point out that we are young 31/27 australian couple who enjoy a quiet drink and spent all day hiking and expected similar people at such a beautiful location, however...

This place caters for all the conitki and busabout tours which are full of immature idiots who think they are still in school and have just learnt they can buy alcohol.

The owners turn a blind eye to all the crap which goes on after midnight as they make a killing selling all the booze from their shop. As soon a bus arrives they all go and buy as many bottles as they can carry and some just stand just near the restaurant drinking and talking in a loud vulgar way. At around 9 they all go the pub up the road but between 12-3am they come rolling back loudly with no regards for anyone.

On the first night we were in the hostel and with 3 buses come midnight people start banging on doors and screaming in the other rooms. No sleep.
2nd night in hostel again woken up but by noise outside as they weren't staying in the hostel.
3rd night we had to move to one of the cabins which was right in the middle of the 5 bus loads of idiots. We had fights out side, someone trying deperately to get into our room, everytime a door on another adjoining cabin was closed the whole place shook. This went on until 4am with no sign of security.

I camped at the other site across town a few years back and even though there was a tour bus it was a different company and they kept to themselves. More basic but 100 times better.

Camping Jungfrau is in a perfect location to explore the Jungfrau region. Only a ten minute walk takes you to Lauterbrunnen station, where you can connect via trains and cable cars to the whole region. If you are there for six days or more I highly recommend you purchase the 'Jungfrau pass' which enables you to travel all over the whole region for only CHF200.

The site is well maintained, clean, and the facilities are excellent. The staff are helpful and friendly in the shop (which has all the basics), the reception (where you can purchase your train tickets) and the restaurant (which serves traditional Swiss food as well as some dishes you'd find at home & is reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in Lauterbrunnen).

The Staubach falls are quite something - we could hear them whilst laying in bed at night and woke to the sound in the mornings - absolutely amazing. The site is in the valley of 72 waterfalls - perfectly situated between the mountains, some of them snow-capped (we went in September).

We drove from Milton Keynes to Lauterbrunnen, the drive was pleasant and didn't seem to take as long as it did (approx. 10 hours). We had the best holiday ever, and hope to return to Camping Jungfrau again very soon. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
