“A skiers hidden gem in the Swiss Alps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2010

We stayed at the Hotel Jungfrau from the 6th of March 2010, we booked with Crystal ski an all inclusive package which included flights, transfers, half board Hotel & full area ski pass at what we thought a bargain price. So with this in mind and being unable to find any previous reviews for a winter stay on trip advisor we were a little bit skeptical as to what we would find. Well our worries and concerns totally evaporated once we arrived at the hotel. The owner made us more than welcome and even gave a us a choice of rooms. These were more than adequate which included an en-suite and balcony. We found the TV / Coffee room a great place to congregate and relax.
The breakfast
This was continental style which included sliced bread, rolls, spreads, cold meats, cheese, cereals, with a choice of coffee or tea.
The evening meal
This was a set 4 course menu and was excellent every evening except one when most of the staff have a day off so they provide a nice cheese fondue and a large slice of creme cake afterwards which is more than filling.

The hotel is the only one in the village with a swimming pool, which is a very good size but is cold when entering, but once you have swam a few lengths very refreshing, they also have a exercise bike but this has seen better days and could do with replacing. One other attraction is a mini sauna called a physiotherm, this was excellent and certainly a bonus after a long hard days skiing.

The hotel is situated in the village of Lauterbrunnen which is in the valley between the Kleine Scheidegg-Mannlichen & Murren-Schilthorn ski areas and is also the main railway point for reaching Wengen. The walk to the station or cable car is 5 minutes from the hotel, 8 minutes if in ski gear and carrying ski's, the return walk takes about ten minutes a) because your tired and b) because its up hill a bit. From here you can get the train to Wengen & if you stay on it takes you up to Kleine Scheidegg the main ski area & to the wonderful views of the Eiger, Monch & Jungfrau. Opposite the station is the cable car to the Murren-Schilthorn, very unique as when you reach the top, you then take a train to Murren, Schilthorn iss famous for the revolving restaurant which featured in the James bond film "On her Majesty's secret service"

Overall I think this hotel offers excellent value for money and is ideally placed for skiing in all the areas, we all had a great ski trip and would thoroughly recommend this hotel, as I said a real gem..!

There is no lift so we had to carry our cases up 3 flights of stairs. The lights were on an automatic timer so you had to hit the switch on the ground floor and by the time you got ot the 1st floor the lights had gone out - how dangerous is that. Breakfast was boring and a bit hit and miss with what you got. The food at evening meal was quite good but you were given no choice - you got what you were given and there was not always very much of it.. If you asked for salt and pepper you eventually got it but it was whisked away within seconds of you using it. The rooms had wooden flooring which meant you could hear anyone above you walking about. We did not have clean bedding at all during the week and the quilts were quite badly marked. Also the floor was not cleaned at all during the week. The shower room/toilet we had was so small that you could barely turn around in there and a larger man would certainly not have fitted in there.
