“Good stay, but no air conditioning”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2011

We stayed at Erlah for two nights in June 2011. The guesthouse is no frills, but very clean and reasonably priced. The location to Lake Bohinj and hiking trails is convenient.

Rooms: include a TV, but are not air conditioned, do not have a phone, and you can only get internet if your room is located close to the kitchen. Having no AV was problematic for us, because keeping the windows open let in bugs.

Staff: was very friendly.

Food: We opted for having both breakfast and dinner included, since there are not many options for restaurants in Ukanc. The breakfast was your standard – boiled eggs, breads, yogurt, cheese, cereals, coffee, etc. Their specialty at dinner was trout, which was caught in the Bohinj River and killed that night, so it was quite fresh.

Overall, the pros were the location, friendly staff, and clean rooms. The cons were no air conditioning and mediocre food.

Because of the no AC, I would choose another place.

Our family of 4 had a pleasant stay in this quiet corner of Lake Bohinj. We rented Apartment 7 upstairs, which has a gorgeous view of the mountains from its balcony. We live in Slovenia and we have tried several small inns and guesthouses in the past several months. It's usually our first priority to stay where Slovenians stay and you might not share this priority. Erlah has very friendly staff and the restaurant serves terrific food. But if you want to encounter Slovenians, you might not meet very many here--it has a mainly Austrian/German/UK/American clientele. It felt a bit like a youth hostel in that sense.

Our stay at the Erlah Guesthouse was quite good. If you want to stay at Ukanc near Vogel this is the best option available. Other hotels in this little village look very dark and a bit depressing.

The service at this place is just fine. But we had the impression that the restaurant was the main bussiness for the guesthouse.

We had a fine room underneath the rooftop with a balcony. Maybe a bit dark. The bed was OK. Towels were changed every two days.

Breakfast was very good. Especially the sort of stuffed croissants were delicious.
Dinner is good too, but the dishes are anything but low fat. (but that is typical for Slovenia)

Far away from the rest of the Slovenia. If you want to see more of the country this might not be te best option. You always have to drive to Bled (ca. 45 min.) to reach other parts of the country.

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights at the Erlah Guesthouse. The guesthouse is located in Ukanc, on the west side of the Bohinj lake, about 2 kilomenters from the Ribcev Laz town located on the east coast. Ukanc cannot be considered a town, there are just a couple of private houses, guesthouses and hotels, no shops at all, and here its where all its charm lies.

Our intention was to be at walking distance from the Vogel Ski Center and near the Bohinj lake at the same time. I made a lot of research on the web (which is not easy since this is a tiny place in Slovenia) and finally decided to give Erlah Guesthouse a try.

This is a 9 room guesthouse, operated by the Erlah family. Our room, and the house in general were impeccable, breakfast was copious and varied, dinner was excellent (truly fresh trout). We were greeted with a big smile and a firm handshake by Blaz Erlah, who also took care of our breakfast.

The room had satellite TV (but who needs TV in this paradisiac place anyway), the bed was confortable, the bathroom brand new with excellent hot water (much needed after a day of skiing). We only had dinner here, there was no need to go somewhere else though there are other options at walking distance.

The quality/price ratio is fantastic, the location is divine, the pristine lake (frozen when we were there) and mountains surrounding it makes you dream of how Switzerland and Austria might have looked in the good old days.

Overall I would highly recommend staying at the Erlah Guesthouse. You'll feel at home with Blaz and his family.
