“Pretty poor location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

Apartment was nice enough and place is pretty clean. Never used the pool as it was always very busy and no free beds that we could find. However the location wasn't so good. To go to tavira old town one has to walk up the N125 - note there is no pavement or verge so you are actually walking on the main road. At the top of the hill you are in fact walking on the roundabout driving surface and cars narrowly miss you as they speed round it. Its manageable if you are young and fit and don't mind some danger but if you are maybe elderly, infirm or with kids or fancy a gentle stroll into town its not so good. Of course taxis and buses are an option but it sort of defeats the purpose of renting an apartment close to the town.

Perhaps I walk on a different road to that used by the client. The road directly outside the complex may be busy but it has very wide hard shoulders which most people seem to be comfortable on -- and there are zebra crossings at the roundabout mentioned.
As to loungers and umbrellas, it can sometimes be difficult to cater for everybody at peak hours in July, August but many people are happy to spread their towels or cushions in the lawn areas beside the pools -- there is never a shortage of space there.
I'm sorry that some of the conditions were not to the client's satisfaction but I am glad that the overall impression was at least average despite the perceived shortcomings.

Had a lovely time in Tavira Gardens, lovely friendly staff, lovely apartment. It's a small walk into town across a busy road but once your in town is very pretty and lots of places to eat and shop, if you don't fancy the walk taxis are very quick and cheap under €5 .... Lovely beaches which are a cheap taxi drive away, supermarket is a 5minswalk way that has plenty of food... Really lovely place to vist ...

The only down side was the very unpleasant locals/residents that swim in the pool.. They become very vocal and quiet rude to the children who are playing in the pool making the children become uneasy and than worry about playing in the pool, with friends or family . Also it seems that the rules of the pool only aply to the English not the Portuguese ...

I'm glad that the guest had an overall good experience in Tavira Garden but I'm quite surprised at the problems experienced in the pool. The main pool area is supervised and anti-social behaviour in any of the pools would be unusual in the extreme. Normally also, the "locals" are typically very much in the minority and friction between nationalities simply doesn't arise. I can offer no explanation for this guest's experience and assure would-be visitors that this is certainly not typical.

Returned last week from our second trip to Tavira, but first to Tavira Gardens. First impression was how clean and bright the white washed buildings and well tended gardens were. Stayed 8 nights in a studio apartment, and was struck by how peaceful the whole complex seems even in the height of summer. Despite being near the main road, very little road noise heard, and certainly not troublesome. Bar and restaurant staff extremely friendly and helpful. Amazing barbecue with all you could eat for 15 euros (usually held once a week in high season) Enjoyed the break so much, we are in the process of purchasing a one bedroomed property on the complex!!

Room Tip: No lifts, so lower floors for less mobile

We have just returned from a 7 day stay at Tavira Garden, our first visit to Portugal for many years and our first ever to Tavira. We booked what we expected to be a small and basic studio apartment, what we got was spacious well designed comfortable and well equipped accommodation which included a large bathroom and washing machine. The studio was spotless and a/c was included in the price. Towels and tea towels were changed mid week but the beds were not - this was not a problem for us.
We were on the first floor in block 23 which is close to the main pool and quite close to the main road. At first we thought we'd never get used to the road noise but it's surprising how it soon faded into the background - we couldn't actually see the road as there were plenty of trees and bushes between us and the road.
As others have mentioned the gardens and pool area are well kept and the communal stairwells in the apartment blocks were clean. Wifi is available in reception and by the pool.
There is a good supermarket a 5 minute walk away along the main road but on the same side as Tavira Garden. Good selection of food available including fresh bread, but frustrating that it doesn't open until 9am.
If you are happy to walk into town it takes 20 minutes to get to the Roman Bridge and 30 minutes to get to the ferry however there is an hourly bus service which takes you into town in 10 minutes for 1 euro return (not sunday). It stops directly outside of Tavira Garden and if you get off at the Mercado Municipal it is only a 2 minute walk to the ferry - the buses coincide with the ferry times.
We made good use of the local taxis and found them to be very reasonable, between 4 - 6 euros into town.
We really enjoyed our stay and found everyone to be helpful and pleasant - a good value break.

Pools were immaculate.Supermarket about 5 min walk.Very quiet when there which suited.Easy to get to town centre by taxi or walking.Only downside is very short walk on busy road no footpath until you reach the residential area. Would and will return.

We spent a week here for a family holiday in June and had a lovely time. We were staying in villa 5B which was lovely. The weather was beautiful every day- very hot. The main pool was lovely, no problems with getting a sun lounger and really refreshing to jump into on a hot day!
The bar was good to have a drink in and you could get free wifi there.
Make sure you take your mosquito spray for the evenings!
The complex is by a main road which isn't ideal however we walked everywhere and as long as you're careful it's fine. There was a good supermarket 5 minutes walk away which was really handy.
Tavira itself is lovely. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars. We did 2 ferry trips to the beach which was fantastic. We also took the train from Port Nova to San Antonio which was very cheap and a nice day out.
All in all a great holiday!

We booked a two bedroom apt and got a 3 bedroom fully equipped one! It was like a home from home with all the facilities one could ask for. The grounds were beautiful cared for and the staff were lovely. The location was just outside the town so a car would be a good idea if you want to explore the lovely eastern Algarve or take a trip to Spain. It is within walking distance of a good supermarket and the very nice Gran Tavira Shopping Centre. The cafe/bar/ restaurant was fantastic with a nice selection of food and drink both day and night. They have a full staff who were amazing, friendly and interesting, the food was fabulous. The pools are lovely and there was no problem getting a sun lounger. It was very hot so the mossies were out, will go back later in the year when they are gone. Our apartment was just behinds the restaurant and lovely and quiet.

Room Tip: We were in 7 b/c c which is a three bedroom apartment in a good location, sunny balcony in the even...
