“Great location for nature lovers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We spent 4 nights here having spotted a very good low season offer. At the price we paid we could not fault the value.

Best points: Quiet location overlooking Ria Formosa. Free secure parking (small charge peak season). Impressive central atrium with glass roof and comfortable seating, pool table and book exchange. Bright, clean and spacious air conditioned junior suite with well equipped kitchen, patio doors from both lounge and bedroom to full width terrace. TV with 2 English language news channels. The pool and gardens looked very nice.

Less good points: The furniture in the apartment, although modern, was basic. Seating was quite uncomfortable and although there was plenty of room for a coffee table, one was not supplied. The gym, whilst well equipped, was small and would be too cosy at busy times. For travellers without a car the resort is a long walk to shops etc. and the lunch menu in the restaurant is very limited low season. Wi-fi connection was mostly poor in the apartment, but better in communal area.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side have river view and afternoon sun. Rooms at the end overlook the pool area a...

We booked to stay at the Cabanas Park for a week from the 18th Oct. Initially we decided to book something which wasn't too far away from the airport. It took us about an hour to get to the resort from the airport (we hired a car).
The cabanas Park apartments are not equipped for self catering holiday. The cooker consists of a two ring ceramic hob and a microwave. There is a full size fridge, but no freezer for ice/ ice creams for children. We were bitterly disappointed as this holiday was sold as a self catering' due to the lack of equipment and utensils we ate out every night. The rooms are tired looking and cold, two large sofa beds equipped the lounge/ dining room although VERY uncomfortable and shabby to say the least. During our stay we had two days of rain, which was unfortunate. The ground floor corridor had 2 big pools of water as the roof had a huge leak in it, not something you would expect from a 4 star resort.
The setting was lovely, however we found the hotel to be a huge let down and very disappointing. So much so we ended up checking out early to find somewhere where we could relax and enjoy the atmosphere, something which Cabanas Park lacks.
On the two days which we had heavy rain we found that we were very limited with things to do, as there was no indoor pool. There is a gym at the hotel, although is there more for ornamental purpose. The running machine's belt is very loose so was dangerous to use, despite reporting it nothing was done about it during our time there, the cross trainer feels like and sounds like it is about to fall apart, the bike seat kept slipping down to the lowest setting so was not practical to use.
The TV in the room has one English channel (bbc news 24), not great if you want to entertain the children for short periods.
The only positives about the resort are the jacuzzi, steam room and the views. Other than that a let down.
We booked into another hotel in alamancil, what a contrast.

My partner and I really enjoyed our time here; it was quiet and relaxing. The pool was lovely, as were the steam room and hot tub! Our room was spotlessly clean and our kitchenette very well-equipped (although a pint glass or two wouldn't go amiss). I have no idea why people are complaining about the beds, the mattresses were firm but certainly not hard. Reception staff were lovely, and lent us a travel adaptor as mine had broken. The free excursions with Antony were excellent (so good that you should tip) :)

We stayed on the reception entrance side of the hotel, so our view was not as nice as others. If you are staying on this side of the hotel, look down from your balcony for the cats living in the hedge (they're so cute)! The mother had five kittens and was skin and bone, so we tried to feed her up a bit! Hopefully others will do the same...

We have just reurned from a 12 night stay at Cabanas Park and it was first class, all of the staff were both courteous and friendly.
The apartments are well appointed with a good size balcony to sit and enjoy a glass of wine watching a beautiful sunset.
We have been to Cabanas before but this will now be our Hotel of choice.

We got an incredible cheap deal on this hotel which we stayed in for the last night of our holiday in Cabanas. You would never know we were only paying a pittance given the service we received. The staff at reception were extremely helpful and friendly. The pool area was really nice during the day too. We went over to the beach on the complimentary shuttle but didn't stay as there were no beds or sun brolly's down that end and it was a real long walk in soft sandback up ( what some people moan about!) recommend walking through the town to the boats that take you over to the bar area if you need shade like me. Fabulous beach!

we stayed for a week and got exactly what we asked for, top floor overlooking the river. very quiet, lovely view accross the salt marshes to Tavira. our room was well equipped with a kitchenette, living room and bedroom - good size, very clean, good, quiet aircon. Nice staff, great pool overall very good. Cabanas is small but lots of friendly restuarants, we ate in town every night, all meals were excellent, very portuguese menus and lots of portuguese eating there so not overly touristy. lunch times too were good. The free boat over to the island was a bonus, there is one in Cabanas(1.40 each way) which goes to the other end of the beach where there's a reasonable beach bar not quite chill out atmosphere but close! having read some of the corres. on the forum re hire car companies I was a bit wary but booked with Drive4Fun and got a great deal half the price of major companies and we had no problems at all. They do take a 30euro deposit against toll charges but as we didnt use the toll road at all, this was refunded to our bank a/c 3 days after return to the UK. Went to Faro on the train which ran to time, there's an interesting old town. We drove up the coast to the border but didn't find a place we liked more than Cabanas. Inland is sadly decimated by forest fires but a drive to the pousada at Estoi is well worth a visit, historic house and gardens with great views. I was told by a Portuguese friend in the UK Barillo beach is the best beach in Portugal, we drove to Pedras D'el Rei, where you walk over a bridge and catch a little train to the beach, its 14km long and has some great bars. St Luiz (calls itself the Octopus town!) is close and very characterful. We liked the hotel, the town and area very much, would certainly return.

Room Tip: river side for evening sun, pool side for morning sun

Stayed at the Cabanas Park Resort in October for four nights. Staff helpful, restaurant pretty good and just a short walk into Cabanas for more restaurants. The rooms themselves were good value for money, like small apartments. The beach glorious and the pool very good. Took a bike ride into Tavira which was really nice. Would definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking wetlands as the sunsets are spectacular!
