I happened upon Tavira Inn more or less by chance by virtue of fairly ad-hoc web-surfing when looking for a congenial place to stay in Tavira.

A couple of people had described it and the webpage of the Inn itself looked inviting, esp. the idea / pics of the Jazz - Bar (not that I am that keen on jazz tel quel to be honest) and the Ernesto-Cardenal (revolutionary pro-Sandinista Nicaraguan priest-poet) look-alike character which is the proprietor Sebasti~ao......

So it proved: Sebastia~o is a mix of congenial - but also - capable - of - leaving -you -alone kind of thing if you don't care to be forced into sociability. The room was spotlessly clean, cool, artistic-inspired decorated. There is a super-looking pool, though the weather was a bit less warm than I like in May for actually taking a dip -but it's nice to know you can; and the location is just 10 mins on foot from the centre of town.

Sebastia~o is very helpful in terms of local knowledge re restaurants / boats to Tavira Island / trains and so on and on. did I mention it is only Euros55 a night ? (minus a discount even if you stay 5 nights as I did).......

My only slight reservation in making this recommendation is that it runs the risk that when I seek to go back it's more likely the place will be full, esp as there are only 5 rooms........ But I am quick to complain when things go awry so in fairness I should direct praise when praise is due............

We really needed a rest and the Tavira Inn was the perfect place. It was truly a home away from home. Incredibly comfortable bed and very spacious room and bathroom with not only loads of storage space, a fridge and air con. but also character and art as well. Sebastiao was a wonderful host and felt more like a helpful friend. He could give advice on so much and was always enthusiastic. It was also well situated for everything in Tavira and had a lovely pool, most welcome at the end of a long, hard day on the beach.

The Tavira Inn was our favorite place in Portugal. If you are only going to go to one place in Portugal this is it. The room was great, the pool was amazing and the jazz bar was so much fun. The owner Sebastio really put his heart and soul into the Inn and it shows. I would go back in a heart beat. I HIGHLY recommend the Tavira Inn.

Outstanding place to stay. Sebastiao is a very friendly host. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. In fact, the Tavira Inn has everything you could want and the atmosphere of the place is far better than staying in a hotel. If you are looking to get away from the crazy crowds on the west Algarve, Tavira is the place to go.

My wife and I stayed for two weeks in July '06. It was a wonderful place to chill out. It's in easy walking distance of the town and we didn't bother hiring a car. Maybe when we go back we will hire one so that we can explore some inland villages.
The inn is clean and cheerful with Sebastiao as host. He is very friendly and helpful. Really it's more like having a private room in someone's house than an inn or hotel. The place is full of paintings, some by Sebastiao's daughter and others by famous artists (just prints, no art thieves need apply!)
The small sea-water pool is clean and very refreshing and relaxing.
