“Can see both sides of indifferent reviews.........but personally we really enjoyed our stay!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

First of all we arrived at the hotel to be greated by very helpful & friendly staff. We were efficiently checked in & given a room on the 3rd floor which could be reached via a lift (or stairs for those feeling fit!). Initial impressions were that the room was clean / tidy with free air con & a safe that could be rented for 2& a half euros a day (you get the lock from reception to secure). The room had a rear / side view that looked out to the left over the salt pan / flats towards the nature reserve areas.

The entrance had a little shop in which newspapers & small essentials could be purchased.

The pool was very clean with towels that are provided for the sunloungers each day. This is obtained by filling in a card with some personal details & everytime you hand them in they give you plastic cards (similar size to a credit card) which or exchanged on a one for one basis on subsequent days.

The rooms are not very modern and they don’t have that cozy beds that you are delighted to sleep in at hotels. It’s not a four star at all if you thing the design, comfort and service. The decoration reminds me an 80’s tropical resort.
The walls are thin so, you’ll listen people going out on the corridor or in doors next to yours. The breakfast is excellent fresh and lots of things the problem is that when the hotel is book, like in august there is a big queue. We just gave up and ate something on the town.
The swimming pool area has lots of kids and families, good if you are looking for familiar environment, noisy if you want to read or relax.
There is no free internet in the rooms.
The car parking is 7,5€ a day. You can park in the street not very far away.
For young couples it’s hardly a place you’ll be glad for staying.

The hotel has a lovely location. However, the Hotel its self is beginning to look a bit tired. I feel it is struggling to make 4 stars.
The staff were polite, breakfast was excellent although very busy.

Location is great to explore the little town of Tavira. Walked everywhere except to the train station due to luggage as it was not far. We arrived by bus and walked to the hotel. Hotel is so nice. Only two floors in the shape of a rectangle with the pool in the middle. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Safe is available at a cost of $2.5E a day. Well worth it for piece of mind. Rooms are bright, clean and fairly spacious, with a nice balcony overlooking the pool area.

Lots of nice dinner places but you need to cross over the bridge to the other side. We went to "Restaurante Museu" and "ATaska", both excellent and just a short walk from the hotel!! Talk to the hotel staff and they will help arrange the shuttle (free)to take you to a sister hotel of theirs where you can catch a boat ferry (10mins)…$2.5E each, a very small one man operation, but efficient and friendly to take you over to the island of white sand beaches. Miles and miles of beach. You can buy your lunch there and eat on the beach. We rented two lounges with cushions and a hut for $10E for the day. The ferry and the shuttle do not line up time wise….not sure why they don't make it that way, but it was what it was. Check it out so you are not left waiting for a long time.

There is a laundry facility is a very short walk away. Facility is clean with very good instructions in English. Only thing is you need to understand the cycles in Portuguese, which we did not so our clothes were dripping once finished in the cycle…..lol. No problem though as the dryer will keep drying until the sensor deems the clothes thoroughly dry but you cannot open the door or you have to start over. So all was well, it just took longer.

I would absolutely stay here another time……..wonderful

experience!!!

Stayed for one night at short notice. Staff were very polite and friendly. Air con failed to work and we had to call reception during the night who were unable to resolve, so had a poor night's sleep as we were so hot. Dining room very noisy due to large group(s) of school children. We noticed that numerous adult members of these parties were helping themselves to large tupperware containers of fresh fruit (especially pineapple) as soon as it appeared. It didn't matter to us, as there was sufficient to eat but seemed a bit rude. Otherwise, pool area pleasant and room comfortable.

Room Tip: We thought it was worth paying the extra for a room over-looking the pool.

We booked a long weekend at Tavira Vila Galé. This chain is supposed to have high service standard.

We arrived there at 13:00 and the rooms were not ready. Reception was a cahos with all the guests waiting with there luggage for the rooms to be ready to check in.

Our 2 kids were a bit impacient but we were able to use the small room for kids and get them to do some paintings...

After a few hours of delay we finally got the room. When we got in we noticed that in one of the beds a dead mosquito were stucked in is own blood. But the most impressive thing was that there were a lot of them flying arround inside the room.

We opened the door to the balcony and we understood the issue, the small 2 square meters balcony had a kind of bush protecting it and that bush was like a tropical jungle full of bugs.

We closed the door immediately to avoyd an invasion.

I went to reception to explain the issue and ask for a different room or any other solution, and I actually got another solution, the person at reception looked at me and said: "that happens a lot arround here, please try this".. "this" was a bug killer spray.

So I went to the room with a bug killer spray, sent my family away to avoys intoxication and did my best against the bugs. I also asked for a new bed sheets because of the dead mosquitos.

Of course when we went to bed there was still teh smell of bug killer spray, but NO BUGS, unless of course we would open the balcony door, which we didnt for the whole 4 days... great to have a balcony... great for bugs of course.

At breakfast we had to stay in line waiting for table... sometimes for more then 10 minutes.

Animation in the pool was just (how to say?) ridiculous... We couldnt use the gim because its attached to the sauna and spa and we had to pay extra for that, a 4 star hotel and we cant use the basic gim equipments!!

Now... problems anyone can have, and I really understand that, what I cant understand is that for this specific Vila Galé hotel manager and staff this is NORMAL service. Not even an apology, or slight indication that they were trying their best.

A "NO GO" for us.

I have just returned from staying at the Vila Gale and had a really relaxing and enjoyable 10 days holiday. The pools are fantastic, the rooms and building spotless and the staff very helpful and friendly.
It is an easy stroll into the centre of Tavira and there are a choice of many restuarants with very reasonably priced meals. Especially over the roman bridge the fish and fruit being excellent!
Tavira is a small town but had music and entertainment in the square most nights. The boat across to the Island was cheap and well run and the beaches there were really good with many bars and restaurants.
