“Well located, very hospitable guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We stayed at this Guesthouse for 2 nights in mid October 2013, having booked there based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. It met our high expectations from these reviews. Andy took excellent care of us and the Guesthouse very accurately matches the photos on the Guesthouse website and the (average 5 out of 5) reviews on Trip Advisor.

Highlights:
- We had some difficulty parking near the Guesthouse due to the one way streets and the fact that the Guesthouse is not on our Garmin map (latest version of Portugal map for 2013). As Andy's email directions advise, you should plan to park say at the nearby bus station on the river, which is free and there were always plenty of spaces to park in October;
- Breakfast was among the best that we had on the trip, including fresh bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit and boda coffee all conveniently served on a tray at your table on the rooftop patio. A bonus was that the breakfast is an extra Euro 8 per person. Since we had to leave early on the last morning before breakfast is served we only paid for what we had.
- The internet worked well and there was a small library of guide books available in the indoor tables area.
- Andy recommended that we eat at the Tevira Lounge (only a two minute walk away overlooking the famous bridge) and at A Barquinha (the little barge, on the quayside). Both were excellent.
- The tourist information office was only a 5 minute walk away.

Many thanks, Andy. And best wishes to your young family.

First off, let me say that I would like my own home to be decorated like Calcada Guesthouse is. Now, onto the really important stuff...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Calcada for 2 nights, and we absolutely loved it. You walk through an unassuming front door into a very chic, modern home. Our room was perfect. Super-modern shower, comfy bed, lots of natural light.

The absolute best part of this fabulous hotel, though, was the rooftop terrace. It's got couches and tables for lounging, as well as a hammock (which we sadly didn't use). We loved taking a bottle of wine and a book up there and watching the sunset over the Tavira rooftops.

Breakfast on the terracei was also real treat--waking up to a warm, sunny morning and having a delicious meal. Perfect. We're STILL talking about the breakfasts.

Andy and Tamsyn were extremely gracious hosts. If we're ever back in Tavira (and we hope to be!) we'll definitely stay at Calcada.

Sought this out on the basis of tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. Well appointed room with access to lounge and roof terrace. Breakfast good with nice mix of fruit, bread and croissants.

Stayed in Calcada for a week in May 2013 and what a find. Rooms were understated and tastefully decorated with wee Portuguese touches. Towels were big and fluffy and I like the fact that they don't provide toiletries - all those half used soaps left behind in hotel rooms are such a waste.

I can't say what the best thing was about Calcada because there were so many competing elements e.g a beautiful sun deck perfect for supping wine, wonderful hosts who gave spot on restaurant recommendations (wild boar Wednesday at Cafe Simone!) and went that extra mile to make sure guests had a top notch stay (this included putting your wine in a cooler).

Can't recommend highly enough and hopefully they'll have space for us to return next year. Cheers Tamsin, Andy and Enzo...

We stayed at Calcada Guesthouse for 4 nights at the end of July. Have traveled a lot around the world but this is one of the best places we stayed up to now. Tamsin and Andy are such a lovely young hosts which know a lot about Tavira and Portugal in general. Their place is immaculately designed for the ultimate comfort. They have payed attention to all small details which make the stay a pleasure. Would recommend Calcada Guesthouse to all friends and family.
