“Extremely bad - hopefully an off-night?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

I hate to write negative reviews, but our meal here was simply awful. The tuna steak with onions was tasteless, and came with an old and lifeless salad - never a good sign. The salted cod was so dry and equally drenched in flavourless oil that we put it to one side and simply couldn't eat it. Nobody came to check on our food and when we eventually complained the owner argued that the cod was a local dish prepared exactly as it should be. From the eight-or-so other restaurants we tried in the town we can say that this is not true. It was simply poorly prepared. To their credit, we were not charged for it.

Judging by the other reviews here we obviously had an uncommon experience. However, every other restaurant in Tavira was considerably better and I certainly wouldn't recommend Joao Belhi.

“Always good.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

We've eaten here three times now, and the food is always excellent. Little bit more pricey than "Os Arcos" (which is dead cheap), but the quality makes it worth it. I've had chicken, fish, steak, and they've all been superb. Nice position, and friendly staff too.

“Typically Portuguese”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We visit this lovely little Portuguese restaurant at least two or three times every visit. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating. The food and wine is typically Portuguese. Food is freshly prepared, well presented and tastes absolutely fabulous. While the vegetarian option is limited on the menu - with a quick conversation with the owners you can have a really good quality, very tasty vegetarian meal. The service is always very very good and the restaurant is spotlessly clean. Excellent value for money. Well worth a visit. We do......... regularly!!

“A good place to eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013 via mobile

Stumbled on here and after a good meal arranged to come back on New Years Eve which was also a friends birthday.
The steaks were cooked to our liking. Two of us shared the monk fish rice. The meal was followed by walking to the square for fireworks and a queen tribute band.
