“Nice food, Nicer view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

In Matoula you can have anything you can have in a typical Greek tavern, well cooked but the view from the balcony is something you you'll take with you (specially if you like castles ), i think you'll enjoy your time there

“mmmatoula...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

The location was very nice with amazing ocean view. Everything we ordered tasted very very good! Spinach pie, roasted lamb and pork, big Greek salad with real feta cheese, tzatziki, keftedes and delicious Greek red wine… The service was fast and the people working there very friendly. If you’re visiting this beautiful old Byzantine town this tavern is probably by far the best to eat.

“Authentic Greek home cooking (with a twist), great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

We had dinner at Matoula's on our summer vacation in Arcadia and Laconia last August. At first we were reluctant because the menu included all the touristy Greek standards. But the location was very attractive (terrace in traditional stone house, covered with vine, with a view to the ocean and the immensely picturesque Monemvassia battlements and tiled rooftops). So we gave it a try. What a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered tasted like our mum's, grandmums' and aunts' dishes. We had lamb roasted in a pot and pork with bitter orange as main courses, both mouthwatering (the pork was not traditionally Greek, but still delicious). The accompanying mezze were well-executed. Service was very fast and efficient, although the place was packed. Overall, a very positive experience, both gastronomically and aesthetically.

“A safe bet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is meant to be the best restaurant in the old town (and certainly we didn't eat in a better one) - we found it to be standard Greek taverna fare, you won't go wrong but nothing to write home about.

“Matoula Restaurant- Don't bring your dogs”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

Wonderful restaurant/Taverna. We live in Greece and my wife remarked that it was one of the nicest tavernas she'd ever sat in- that's after 25 years! The views were amazing, the service was pleasant. Try the spinach pie - it's not the normal version of spanikopita but rather a pan fried local version with far less philo dough. It was amazing. They were very accomodating to the dogs but we were distracted by the numerous cats and so were the dogs! This cut our visit slightly short but we very much enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. This is a "must do" if visiting this beautiful old Byzantine town.
