“Another very good offshoot of Vincent's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Bergs in Riga this week and had lunch at Bergs on the first day. Very nice room overlooking the courtyard of the hotel and several neighboring outdoor restaurant; very good service from a young and attentive staff; and more than good food from the kitchen. We both had salads to start and they were excellent. Made with fresh from the garden greens and other vegetables and very carefully dressed. with small pieces of local goat cheese worked into the mix. My wife went on to a cauliflower soup again made with fresh ingredients and just a touch of cream. I had grilled sea bass and it was perfectly done. Like the Biblioteka No.1 and several of the other high end restaurants in Riga, Bergs has a wine-smart staff and an excellent selection with Italian wines in the majority. We also had breakfast here two mornings in a row and it was a good as it gets. The very highest cuisine? Not quite but it is getting there.

“Good service and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

The Bergs offered a bit better than average food with higher class service in a bit formal but still cozy environment.

Our starters were fried king prawns and a beef tartar. Both were excellent. For main course we had fresh white fish which was well prepared and correctly seasoned. Our another main course was rabbit which was quite greasy and heavy to digest, but it was still tender meat. I have had better rabbit, but it's a matter of opinion if this was a failure or not. For me it was a disappointment.

The service was a bit formal, but still friendly. I was disappointed again by not getting our meals presented by the waiters. I'd expect that as a basic detail in fine dining restaurants.

Our only dessert was the chocolate fondant which I liked very much. Nice soft melted chocolate inside with some decent ice-cream.

Our dinner cost about 118 LVL which was a bit expensive considering the local price level. I could still recommend this restaurant for special oocasions or business meetings.

“Excellent restaurant choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Bergs and had breakfast daily and one lunch. The service was very good and despite it being a 5 star hotel, it was unpretentious. The food was excellent. We enjoyed our dining experience.

“We expected more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

The food was adequate but certainly not outstanding, especially for the prices. The $200/2 people dinner was not worth it. Service and atmosphere is lovely. The hotel is worth a look to see the blending of modern and old.
