“Great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

I stayed here for 3 nights and it was great value, my room was small but it was clean. It was minus 3 outside but the heater and hot shower did their job very well. The hotel is located in a quiet area but not well lit at night so I can understand why some people might not feel safe walking back at night. There are buses nearby but I went on foot to the nearby Academy of Sciences building (where there is an outdoor observation deck on the 17th floor with panoramic views), Central market, Riga train station. It takes about 15 minutes walk to Riga station and a further 10 minutes to reach the old town. The buffet breakfast was excellent, many choices of hot and cold food, and a toaster. I ate at the hotel pub/restaurant once, the food was ok but I found the portions to be rather small.

We stayed at Hanza hotel 7 days over the Christmas. Below I will try to list some positive and negative things about this hotel. Overall feeling is positive:
- Perfect breakfast, very tasty, and rich selection of food;
- Room size was big (we stayed at triple);
- Reception staff was very helpful;
- Heating system works well;
- Dinner at restaurant was tasty and service very quickly and very professional;
I have to mention some negative things as well:
- The shower in bathroom is not comfortable to use as there is only one point for water from the top;
- As there are no curtains or blinds installed at room (only wood shutters) so light from nearby historical building decorations penetrated through the shutters and it was very hard to sleep for us;
- Some essential for city hotel things are missing - safe, small fridge and kettle in the room

Room Tip: Ask reception for room at higher floors

We stay in Hanza hotel in Novemeber 2013. it was wonderful stay even despite not quite pleasant weather. But the hotel was really comfy with nice and helpful staff. The hotel is located in quiet neighborhood, next to church. Few minutes of walk from the main market, bus terminal, railway station, and even the very centre of the city - so it is close to every interesting thing in Riga. And the hotel restaurant was nice and cosy and they made wonderful breakfasts!

This hotel recently fraudulently charged the credit card of a single mother in the midst of adopting a child. By failing to give her a refund they put her at risk in the midst of an important trip w/ a vulnerable child. Who does that? What horrible horrible people!

3rd stay at Hanza and excellent service as always.

On arrival were upgraded to a superior room: Large corner room on 5th floor, with comfortable double bed wardrobe and work desk, bathroom with power shower.

Breakfast was great with plenty of choice.

Room Tip: corner rooms over great views

Have stayed in the Hanza on 3 occassions and always receive the best of service.

We were upgraded to a superior room on arrival: Large corner room on higher floor, with huge comfortable double bed and large shower room. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.
good soundproofing. Room was well heated throughout.
Excellent breakfast with many choices.

The only minor improvements would be a kettle in the room, a shelf in the shower for toiletries.

We have eaten at the Hanza Pub ( where breakfast is also served) and found the food quite pricey for the quality. however there are a number of options within a to min walk.

Hanza hotel is situated approx 15 mins walk from Old Town, near the central market / bus + train stations.
Worth noting that the airport bus (22) stops within a 5 min walk of the hotel and costs 0.70 Lat. which is far cheaper than you'll get a cab for.

Room Tip: corner rooms offer great views.

Stayed this December with hubby and 2 year old. Lovely hotel with great service and breakfast options. Pretty close for access to the old town too. Would definitely recommend as a budget option. Decent quality too - fab bathroom with uber hot water and powerful shower (great as it was freezing while we were there). Only thing (which is probably very common and my mistake for forgetting to pack) no kettle in room. Definitely more of a uk thing but easily resolved by packing a travel one! Ignore children's activities and pool rating - this should be an na but couldn't work ut he to do this.
