I stayed here for 3 nights and it was great value, my room was small but it was clean. It was minus 3 outside but the heater and hot shower did their job very well. The hotel is located in a quiet area but not well lit at night so I can understand why some people might not feel safe walking back at night. There are buses nearby but I went on foot to the nearby Academy of Sciences building (where there is an outdoor observation deck on the 17th floor with panoramic views), Central market, Riga train station. It takes about 15 minutes walk to Riga station and a further 10 minutes to reach the old town. The buffet breakfast was excellent, many choices of hot and cold food, and a toaster. I ate at the hotel pub/restaurant once, the food was ok but I found the portions to be rather small.
