Monte Kristo is stylish hotel with very good service and value for money for a central Riga hotel. Nice breakfist. Warmly recommend this hotel. Also recommend to visit family restaurant Alibi which is located near the hotel. Delicious grill in Latvian traditional style. Lovely place. Lovely service. Owner Dace and Raivis are very nice and helpful couple.

Just across the road from the Bus Station and on the edge of the Old Town this was ideal for a few days in Riga. Breakfast was good and rooms clean and of good size, add friendly staff. For the price and location certainly a winner.

Excellent hotel with full equipped rooms, old style furniture and very good breakfast, the best I've had. The location is also very good - it's close to railway and bus station also as old city with main sight seeings.

The hotel does not look too promising from the outside as it is on a delapidated cobbled street (however you will see that a lot of the old town streets are dilapidated cobbled streets!). However the hotel creates a welcoming environment and this is eched by the staff all of whom we dealt with speak english.
The hotel has 39 rooms or so ....ours was a small double but was clean and well appointed including tea and coffe mini bar TV and curiously a CD player. The bathroom was very clean and had a corner bath with integral shower which packed a punch in the morning! Water was hot every time we used it. The room was cleaned every day and fresh towels were supplied whether you asked for them or not.
There is no dining room as far as we could see as there are many good and reasonably priced restaurants very nearby. Breakfast is served in a basement accessed by some 6 steps. Itwas quite highly prized by the hotel and features in theor literature.....it is a basement! Breakfast is an experience...not necessarily a bad one either. You are greeted in a brusque manner with "room number tea coffee! " no other words pass between us! The food is tasty but unusual. It is a filling meal if you experiment with the sausage, banana pancakes and the cheese and salami toasties.
It is cheap and cheerful, comfortable and handy for the airport bus and the old town.

Room Tip: confirm the room size and which level you are on when you book

We loved the Monte Kristo. It was 50 m from the airport bus stop and was in easy walking distance of all the tourist attractions. We arrived early and were able to check in. (we had a late night flight home and were able to leave our luggage in the hotel til late evening)
The staff were helpful and spoke good English. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
the food was good- we ate in the hotel a couple of times in the evening and it was excellent value (cheaper than eating in town!)
Breakfast was the same each day - continental , cereal and porridge (served cold), fresh fruit salad, range of pancakes and fried/ boiled eggs.
The room was clean and towels were changed daily. We stayed in a room overlooking a narrow street and we were next to a bar and rock venue! But the well glazed window meant we were not disturbed by the music.
The down side for us was that the L shaped room would have benefited from an additional ceiling light as the mirror was in the darkest part of the room.
However we are returning to Riga soon and will re book the hotel. It doesnt deserve to be 33 on this list!!

After reading some of the review we were a bit nervous however as soon as we arrived we realised we had nothing to worry about. Fantastic location right near old town and central markets, lovely room, friendly staff and delicious breakfast!

Usually staying in hostels across Europe we arrived at the Monte Kristo and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was comfortably furnished and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Our group arrived at around 10.45am and we were checked in within 10 minutes. There was eight of us in the group and the rooms had been changed so that they all had single beds and they had plenty of room. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were kitted out with everything you would need for the weekend. The breakfast was vailable between 8 and 11 at the weekend and between 7 and 10 on weekdays, which was perfect after a late night. The breakfast itself was buffet style with some strange foods on offer, but I would be surprised if there was nothing that most people would find palatable! Plenty of tea/coffee and juices were also available.

The hotel, and indeed the town were in eaqsy reach of the airport by taxi and only took 10 minutes. Our group paid 3 Lats each towards the taxi from the airport in a minibus, which is approx £28. Looking back this was slightly steep as the hotel booked us a taxi which cost 2 Lats each - a saving of around £11.

Riga was a smashing city with plenty to see and do. There are loads of pubs serving good food and drink. The local people are very friendly and if you don't act like the traditional "stag" crowd they will take you under their wing and even socialise with you.

We are strongly considering returning next year~!
